But most of their time is spent across the rooms and corridors of the hospital, tending to HCI patients and staff. Shifting Gears: How HCI’s Cancer Screening and Education Bus Helped With COVID-19 Testing

When the Huntsman Cancer Institute Cancer Screening and Education Bus began operations in August 2019, no one knew that the following spring, the mobile clinic would be used for something else entirely. But when the coronavirus pandemic hit, cancer screening on the bus came to a halt in order to prevent community spread of the virus. As COVID-19 cases increased along the Wasatch Front, the University of Utah Health began Utah Health and Economic Recovery Outreach (HERO), a program to test 10,000 Utahns for the disease. Using the bus for Utah HERO made perfect sense.
