New CAR-T Target Yields Promising Results for Multiple Myeloma

Too many patients with cancers like multiple myeloma relapse after treatment. This grim reality motivated researchers at HCI to try to improve the depth and durability of treatment response in multiple myeloma through a new cancer cell targeting mechanism. In research published in the journal Nature Communications, HCI scientists describe a novel way to treat cancers using chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy.

As a veteran, Frank Luthi was familiar with the Department of Veterans Affairs Salt Lake City Health Care System. The VA offers medical care to enrolled veterans at VA clinics and hospitals. This includes primary care visits and other health services. When Frank was diagnosed with cancer, he didn’t realize he could also get treated by Huntsman Cancer Institute physicians at the VA.
