Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) at the University of Utah and University of Utah Health Hospitals and Clinics (UUHC) announced Don Milligan, MBA, will serve as the new executive director of the HCI Cancer Hospital.

Milligan has more than 25 years of management experience in health care, 22 of which have been in leadership roles at U of U Health and HCI. As HCI Cancer Hospital executive director, Milligan will serve as the senior administrator with oversight of all operational aspects of the clinical cancer programs.

“Don has been a steady force in the development of our exceptional health system which has been in Vizient’s Top 10 Academic Medical Centers for Quality for a full decade now,” says Gordon Crabtree, CEO of UUHC. “On behalf of all of our leaders and staff, I congratulate Don and know he will continue to bring his steadfast commitment to the role of the Cancer Hospital executive director.”

Mary Beckerle, PhD, HCI CEO says, “Don is someone who is known by all who work with him to have a deep commitment to HCI’s mission, working tirelessly to ensure that every step we take at HCI puts the patient first. I am so pleased to see him in this leadership role, knowing that HCI’s clinical cancer programs remain in highly capable hands.”

In carrying forward a longstanding tradition of collaboration and partnership, Milligan will serve on executive leadership committees for both HCI and UUHC. Milligan will ensure full integration of research and care in clinical programs at HCI, collaborating closely with John Ward, MD, HCI interim Physician-in-Chief. Milligan succeeds Ben Tanner, MPH, who retired earlier this month.
