Creative Arts at Huntsman Cancer Institute

Did you know you can participate in virtual Artist-in-Residence classes via Facebook Live?
Time to get creative!

Research studies show creative arts can reduce anxiety, depression, pain, loneliness, and stress, which may improve a person’s emotional, social, and physical health. Creative Arts programs and classes are free. Many are also open to loved ones and staff.

Artist-in-Residence

Each week, a professional artist leads a drop-in workshop. Participants can make art through a variety of projects such as painting, drawing, and sculpture and express themselves creatively.

Participation is free for patients, loved ones, and Huntsman Cancer Institute staff. Visit the Wellness Center Facebook Group for upcoming workshops.

Music Therapy

Listening to and making music helps us express ourselves, connect with others, and lift our spirits. The Music Therapy program engages patients and caregivers in music to address physical symptoms, practice stress management, and provide emotional support.

Participation is free for patients, loved ones, and Huntsman Cancer Institute staff. Music therapy services are available Monday through Friday. Call the Wellness Center at 801-587-4585 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Writer-in-Residence

Explore creative and expressive writing, and the power of language to heal through reflection, stories, poems, essays, journaling, letters, and more with poet and writer Susan Sample. We offer individual and group workshops for outpatients and inpatients.

"...Writing cannot cure patients, but it facilitates the progress of repairing the damages done. Words have the power to mend spirits abiding within damaged or incurable bodies." — Susan Gubar, PhD, author of Reading and Writing Cancer: How Words Heal
