In a jump from last year's rating of 23rd, University of Utah Health Care's John A. Moran Eye Center ranked 18th among ophthalmology departments in U.S. News & World Report's 2015-2016 survey.
"The Moran Eye Center has become known for providing world-class care to all of our patients," said Randall J Olson, MD, Chair and CEO of the John A. Moran Eye Center. "We have some of the most dedicated, knowledgeable, and compassionate physicians and staff in the field, and I am very proud to see them recognized by their peers."
How the Rankings Are Determined
Rankings for eye centers are determined 100% by their reputation with board-certified specialists. Ophthalmologists are asked for the top five hospitals to which they would refer their "most complex and challenging patients." Of ophthalmologists surveyed nationwide, 3.5% listed the Moran Eye Center as one of their top choices. Moran received the highest ranking for a program between the West Coast and Iowa. Ophthalmology was also the highest ranked specialty at the University of Utah School of Medicine.
