The latest technology to arrive in the nonprofit Intermountain Ocular Research Center at the John A. Moran Eye Center laser-assisted Refractive Index Shaping (RIS) stands to transform cataract surgery.
RIS allows physicians to adjust the power of a patient's intraocular lens used to replace the eye's own natural clouded lens weeks or even years after its initial placement. The process takes just 23 seconds, and produces no cuts or ablations.
John A. Moran Eye Center CEO Randall J Olson will discuss RIS at this week's annual meeting of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Read more about the unique potential of this technology and Moran's role in vetting it here.
