To better serve patients and keep pace with increasing demand, the John A. Moran Eye Center recently remodeled the entire second floor of its University of Utah location.

The revamp includes a fourth, state-of-the-art operating suite used for retina procedures, a larger and more comprehensive pharmacy, enlarged exam rooms, and a fully upgraded sterile processing room that doubles capacity for instrument sterilizations.

Check-in and waiting areas have also undergone a complete remodel—all the better for patients and their families to enjoy a spectacular view of the Salt Lake Valley in comfort.

All operating rooms have new anesthesia machines, designed to precisely monitor every aspect of a patient’s breathing and detect and display the exact amount of anesthesia being inhaled and exhaled. A biometry room adjacent to the new operating suite also allows physicians to double check and scan patients’ eyes immediately before cataract and other vision-correction surgeries. These scans help surgeons calculate the exact measurements for the lenses that will be implanted into each eye.

The Moran pharmacy has tripled its footprint and now includes clean rooms and hazardous drug storage and preparation areas. Employees and patients can have any prescription filled on site.
