John A. Moran Eye Center faculty will share research on the latest surgical techniques and technology at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Annual Meeting this month.
ASCRS is the largest organization for surgeons who specialize in operating on the front-most region of the eye.
Moran Eye Center CEO and University of Utah Distinguished Professor and Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences Chair Randall J Olson, MD, will present the latest data from ongoing clinical trials of a new laser-assisted technology known as Refractive Index Shaping (RIS).
Surgeons replace the eye’s natural lens with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) during cataract surgery. RIS allows surgeons to adjust the power of an IOL using a laser weeks or even years after its initial placement. The process takes just 23 seconds, and produces no cuts or ablations.
