U.S. News & World Report has ranked the John A. Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah among the nation’s Top 10 eye centers for a third year running.
The Moran Eye Center ranked No. 10 in the magazine’s 2024-2025 Best Hospitals for Ophthalmology report. U.S. News & World Report bases its rankings on voting results asking ophthalmologists nationwide where they would send their patients with the most complex eye conditions. The magazine only publishes rankings for institutions that receive at least 5% of votes over a three-year period.
“I am grateful to my colleagues for this recognition of the outstanding specialty care at the Moran Eye Center,” said Moran CEO and Distinguished Professor Randall J Olson, MD. “This ranking marks our third year in the Top 10 and the word is out: Utah is home to some of the best eye care that patients facing sight-threatening diseases and conditions can find in the United States.”
More than 40 Moran specialists provide a complete spectrum of eye care, from basic eye exams and cataract or LASIK surgery to highly specialized treatments for sight-threatening diseases and conditions. Moran is the largest ophthalmology clinical care and research center in the Mountain West and has 10 satellite clinics. As a major referral center, Moran has about 175,000 patient visits, and physicians conduct more than 8,600 surgeries annually.
Moran supports more than 20 research labs and centers, where internationally awarded faculty are developing the treatments of tomorrow. Faculty train 12 residents, four interns, and up to 13 fellows annually in one of the nation's most selective and unique academic programs.
More than 700 employees work to achieve the Moran Eye Center's vision that no person with a blinding condition, eye disease, or visual impairment should be without hope, understanding, and treatment. Moran's Global Outreach Division carries out this vision on a local and global scale by providing services to underserved Utahns at no cost and by training doctors in under-resourced countries to expand access to care.
