Amazing surgeon! We appreciated his wisdom and excellent care when my son needed it the most.
Answered questions, shared details of surgery and had a calming and humorous personality.
I have every confidence in his expertise as a hand surgeon
Dr. Hutchingson is tops in hand surgery. With his knowledge and expertise, he is able to perform what seems like miracles in the field of hand surgery. I don't know if I'd want anyone else performing it. So grateful he is practicing medicine.
As for many years, he is unsurpassed as a hand surgeon and physician. Totally amazing in his ability to relate to the patient and is so approachable. Terrific.
Dr. Hutchinson and his team are fantastic !!!!
Dr. Hutchinson's approach to patient care is engaging, reassuring and thorough. His treatments and procedures are effective and recommendations for future care carefully explained. He is a doctor all would appreciate.
My experience with Doctor Hutchinson was great! He seemed to genuinely care about me and my injury. Doctor Hutchinson was very knowledgeable and interested in finding solutions for my healing.
We have been very happy with the care we are receiving and how things are explained. We feel that Our needs are being met.
good experience
Dr. Hutchinson is wonderful. I'm so happy he's my doctor!
listened to what i had to say and fixed me up for additional problems.
If you are looking for solutions, straight talk, and get it done and get you on your way...this team makes it happen. The kindness and sincerity is a bonus! Thanks to the whole team.
I have been a patient of Dr Hutchinson for awhile. He is attentive to my needs. He & his team call to check on me. They respond to my requests & needs promptly. Dr Hutchinson has a friendly demeanor & puts you at ease. He will discuss your problems, what can be done to correct it with a positive outcome
Dr. Hutchinson was very attentive and helpful.
Dr. Hutchinson is a kind doctor who listens and makes you comfortable. He also has a sense of humor which is appreciated!
Outstanding physician
Dr Hutchinson was very kind and thorough
Excellent interview.
A good doctor.
Very explicit, to the point, personable, pleasant, knowledgeable , professional, fridndly
I highly recommend Dr Hutchinson
When I came, as parent of patient, unsure if the follow up visit was even needed, Dr Hutchinson made my son and I feel welcome and valued. He answered my questions, gave answers to questions I might have but didn't even know to ask. He was fun with handshakes and jokes to my child.
Highly recommend Dr Hutchinson!
"Hutch" is simply the best of the best! I would only recommend him.
He is amazing and very caring.
Such personal care and truly listening and explaining is rare these days. This team is aces!!
Dr. Hutchinson is great. And he is caring person.
He's the best of best!!! Treats patients professionally and with warmth and humor.
Hutch is a great doctor!
See previous comment. Scheduling needs to go through Hutchinson's office. I had to wait 3 months in extreme pain and for something that was easily resolved quickly. The doctor apologized and gave me a direct number to call.
I met Dr. Hutchinson after having already seen multiple other orthopedic surgeons. The previous doctors told me they didn't have the ability to treat me; I thought my hands had permanently lost the majority of their strength and function. Dr. Hutchinson and his staff took my case, performed surgery, and returned my hands to their pre-injury condition and stability. This is a brilliant doctor and a good man - follow his advice and trust in his skill - he was the only person capable of restoring my quality of life. I am beyond grateful for what he did for me.
Very concerned for my well being answered all my questions and addressed my concerns
I felt that Dr. Hutchinson was dismissive.
Best care
Dr. Huchinson is the best physician I have ever had
Our sons in California are very envious of the thorough treatment and care we get here. Couldn't be better.
Dr. Hutchinson was amazing. Probably the nicest and most competent doctor I've ever seen in my life.
He kept things simple and straightforward. Offering me a diagnosis and a couple different treatment options and signaled which he'd recommend. I really appreciated his approachable expertise and efficiency! We were off the call with a treatment plan in hand within 15-20 minutes.
He didnt lusten to the full problem and on fixed half of what i need to be done for my son care
Excellent
Dr Hutchinson is a compassionate, caring and skilled physician.
Dr Hutchinson is very knowledgable, kind & professional. I would highly recommend him to anyone who might need his services.
Hutch is an outstanding care provider! And a great individual!
i had sugery on left wrist 20 years ago , so i had complet confidence in dr.hutchinson
Super!
I was not able to assess the full consequences of having a suggested surgery.
I would recommend UofU Health to anyone who needed good medical advice/treatment. I haven't experienced one problem with my health team.
Dr Hutchinson is the best !
good
I was thrilled that Dr. Hutchinson listened to my long history, was gentle, explained thoroughly what he suggested, AND did a relatively painless injection!
I can't ask for a better Doctor. thank you.
Dr "Hutch" is one of a kind. Funny, and genuinely concerned in your care. Great doctor, and all around great guy!
Dr Hutchinson is a specialist that treats you with respect and grace as he examines your hand. He is thorough and tells you in detail what he will do and what outcome to expect. I have come to Dr Hutchinson for the last 10 years, travelling from my home first in WA state and now MT because I have complete confidence I will receive the best care even though I am now 73 years old.
Dr Hutchinson is well equipped, has the expertise, and experience to deal with any of your hand or elbow problems. He is very kind, caring, and talented doctor.
Friendly
Dr Hutchinson is very informative and concerned about my surgery and care.
Great doctor!
If you have a hand issue he is the doctor you want to see. He's very experienced and has great "bedside manner"!!
Dr. Hutchinson is a fantastic provider!
Dr. Hutchinson was able to do x-rays and quickly diagnose the arthritis that has been causing thumb pain. We discussed different options and decided that a cortisone shot was the best treatment at this time. He gave me the shot at the same appointment so I didn't have to go back. We also discussed getting a thumb brace to help alleviate inflammation. The assistant brought some braces in for me to try on, and helped me choose the best one for my needs. I felt like he listened to what I wanted for treatment at this time, and we discussed what I could do later if I feel the need for more advanced treatment such as surgery. I was very pleased with how my appointment went, and the cortisone shot has brought me some relief.
Dr Hutchinson is an excellent physician. He listens to you and is very knowledgeable
I like him very much!! He used humor as well as his knowledge to help me understand what is happening with my finger. And considers the best place to have the surgery for me. I like that!! I don't feel like I am just another patient. I have specific health problems that need to be considered for the surgery. I like that he has thought it all through before I even left the office!! I know he will do his very best for me during the surgery. I know I am in good hands.
Hutch is the best. The treatment I received is working. I am so thankful.
Dr. Hutchinson is a kind and caring surgeon who listens attentively to his patients and asks their input and desires. He is an incredibly skilled surgeon and I'm very pleased with the outcome of my hand surgery. The results have exceeded my expectations. I appreciate his care after surgery. He clearly explained how I should care for my hand at home to ensure the best recovery. He specifically explained what would happen if I didn't follow his medical plan. He always answered my questions, as well as my messages through My Chart to my satisfaction. I would recommend Dr. Hutchinson to anyone with hand difficulties in a heartbeat.
Dr Hutchinson told me to stop complaining and quit doing what ever stupid thing that's making me hurt ....not words or recommendations I would expect to hear from a Dr
our son is having his 4th hand surgery and Dr Hutchinson answered all of our questions, listened to us and never made us feel dumb. we feel good about having this surgery.
He came into the room with guns a blazing, not sure what happened prior to entry, but he fired a dozen questions at my daughter didn't give her a chance to answer, and cut her off mid sentence. I had to tell him to hold on and listen. Once we got him settled down it went better. However, we were very disappointed with the first 5 minutes he was in the room. I was ready to walk out.
Professional and skilled.
Great doc
I have a great deal of confidence in Dr. Hutchinson's ability to repair my hand.
He really cares and puts one at ease. GIVE HIM A RAISE
He is helpful, informative makes you very comfortable & definitely includes you in the conversation
Dr Hutchinson has been great to work with. He's worked on both of my husband's hands for carpal tunnel and both of my elbows and wrists for cubital and carpal tunnel. He is accommodating, gentle and so easy to work with. As a guitar player, having the best arm and hand surgeon was paramount to me!
Patient prep, as in advising about problems with activities of daily leaving should be elaborated upon . I was given to understand this would be a very simple recovery. I found that simple tasks such as removing my bra, buttoning pants etc very difficult, did not realize i would have no strength in hand or fingers. I think discussing these things at first visit when surgery is needed would have been very helpful!! Otherwise I am very impressed with the whole team!! Thank you for your care!!
Exceptional care and consideration. Listens, understands patient concerns, explains everything so you can understand. Friendly and concerned about the patient.
I was first seen by someone who identified herself as an Athletic Trainer. I was confused why a person with this certification would examine me. Why would this person be the first health practitioner examine me? The doctor then came into the room with the Athletic Trainer and an unknown person. The doctor never introduced this unknown person to me. And the young man never said anything nor took any notes. The doctor really out to introduce his team and explain their presence.
Dr. HUTCHINGS is a very good Dr. and I would refer my family to him if needed
Superior help with the finger splint.
We loved everything about the visit, thank you for taking such good care of us.
Appreciated the time that Dr. Hutchinson took explaining everything to me. I was impressed by him and his team.
Doctor was thorough in his explanations and clearly informed me of treatment choices allowing me to make a confident decision. All my concerns and questions were welcomed and addressed.
Hutch is amazing and his strength as a clinician is his ability to listen and really hone in on what the patient is attempting to communicate. He is a quality human being beyond the stethoscope and it shows in his ability to serve his patients. We really have appreciated the help that he has been able to give us and the quality of life, for us, that his skills are enabling. Give that man a pay raise or at least an extra cuppa coffee! thank you
HUTCHINSON ...he's good !
Good
This total experience was very good. I have always been pleased with everything when I have come here
Definitely knows what he's doing. Highly recommend.
Dr. Hutchinson really listen. And care about you.
Dr. Hutchison is knowledgeable, kind and thorough. The U is very lucky to have his as one of the many excellent providers working at the U.
Dr Hutchinson has treated our family with excellent care and concern.
He's great.
He has been my doctor for nearly twenty years, i like his treatment and diagnosis. I would recommend him to anyone in need. He is absolutely a trusty physician for patient's interest.
Dr. Hutchinson is tops!
After seeing two different surgeons in Boise and having little faith in their opinions, I knew I had to keep looking. So glad I came down to Salt Lake. Dr Hutchinson made me feel 1000% better about the course of treatment I was needing. I will recommend this clinic to anyone seeking the best care.
This Doctor is AMAZING. Too bad the healthcare facility is NOT.
Excellent experience
I feel like if I would of stayed with my prior surgeon. I would be in a very bad place with my injury. Hutch fixed somethings from what was done to me from the previous surgeon and I now have my finger working. I still have a long road ahead of me. But I am so blessed that he took the time and cared about what I had went through and he fixed me.
Talented and personable physician.
Very competent; friendly and personable
I appreciate his clear diagnosis and recommendation of a treatment plan for me.
Dr. Hutchinson is through taking xrays prior to evaluating the problem. He is concise in describing the issues and presenting his solutions to remedy each problem. He is gracious, friendly, and has a gentle touch as he exams your sore hands. Dr Hutchinson repaired my left thumb; I traveled from Tumwater, WA then. I now live in Kalispell, MT and chose to come back to Dr Hutchinson to get my right hand issues repaired since my left thumb was a great success and functioned normally after being repaired. His light-hearted nature makes the doctor patient experience not feel clinical, but relaxed and focused on your personal situation.
Dr Hutch and team are the best, thank you for a successful hand surgery.
excellent
Great bedside manner. Great sense of humor. Made my 17-year-old feel very comfortable and made him laugh too.
Excellent experience
Once we actually met the doctor in the afternoon he did a fantastic job. I think the ER was super busy that day.
I have recommended Dr to people inside and outside the state
Dr. Hutchinson is knowledgeable straightforward and caring. It's easy to have confidence in him.
Dr Hutchinson surgical skills changed my life for the better
Dr. Hutchinson is an incredibly talented surgeon. He explains options very well.
I recommend him but most times they need immediate treatment
The doctor spent maybe 4 minutes in the exam room with me. He said he couldn't see anything and perhaps I needed to learn some limitations of not being able to use my hand
Dr. Hutchinson was awesome. He spoke to my 14 year old in a way he understood. Took precautions for care considering my son plays football and will still be attending practice. He was very considerate and we feel his care was great.
great doctor
I love Dr. Hutch, he is very caring and genuine and would highly recommend him for anyone in need. He and his staff are all professional and made me feel cared about.
Doctor Hutchinson was very direct And obviously experienced in this problem and I was very happy with our experience
Thank you
Dr Hutchinson's skill, knowledge and surgery outcome has been life changing and I am very grateful
A great practitioner.
Dr Hutinson is the best. I'm so glad I got referred to him. Everyone is so nice and makes you feel comfortable.
Dr Hutchinson was very kind. Explained everything and took time to listen. I never felt rushed.
Excellent doctor. Explained exactly what the procedure would be and what to expect. Listened to my concerns and answered all questions. Accomplished the surgery quickly and painlessly. Much easier than expected. I had no stress or anxiety. I had my other hand done 20 years ago but if I had a third hand I would not hesitate to have Dr. Hutchinson do carpal tunnel release surgery on it too!
"The Hutch" is top flight! He explains clearly what your options are and what the procedures entail. I came back to him for surgery on my right hand because I was so satisfied with the work he did on my left hand about 7 or 8 years ago.
Dr Hutchinson is extremely compassionate and very thorough. He's very approachable and you can ask any question and get a legitimate answer.
Dr. Hutchinson is an impressive physician.
I've had 4 previous botched surgeries for 2 other doctors, and Dr Hutch knows how I am feeling. He is the best. He puts me at ease.
Dr Hutchinson was great! I had been told by another Dr I'd need surgery and Dr Hutchinson talked to me about my options.
Dr. Hutchinson is so expert in his field that sometimes he brushes over concerns or questions. This can be frustrating.
I have great confidence in his skills. Areas that I feel need improvement: patient education and sensitivity to patient's comfort & concerns.
Best hand doctor in the State!
Experienced and capable physician
This is a wonderful Doctor thank you
Listened and suggested treatment.
Dr. Hutchinson did a good job, I felt., and he has quite a charming personality.
Highly recommend
Dr. Hutchinson was very helpful and caring to my needs. I would recommend him highly to anyone.
His explanations for my up-coming surgery answered my questions and settled my anxieties.
Dr. Hutchinson is a bad ass. No complaints only positive vibes.
Dr. Hutchinson is competent and caring. also is a straight shooter.
Dr Hutchinson is the best ! He and his team give the patient information, options for the best treatment and quickly call to schedule the treatment option. Everything moves forward for best medical practices making the care of the patient first. Thank you !
I liked his care and humor when I returned for a post operation checkup.
He is so great fun personality
Frustrating because he said it was arthritis but dont understand how it could spring up immediately following fall
He's truly one of the best hand surgeons in the US and maybe the world.
See previous comment.
The doctor, the fellow, and who I believe was the MA were all amazing. So nice, so communicative, and honestly hilarious!
Dr. Hutchinson was fantastic! He answered all my questions and explained my son's condition very well. I walked out feeling comfortable and confident with his plan for my son.
Appointment was very generic. Doctor had many opinions without all the facts.
I had fallen on my hand a few days prior and felt concerned which did not seem to compute with Dr. Hutchinson.
Dr. Hutchinson was very detailed, sense of humor and compassionate.
We had a unique situation, as we were coming in fbr an consultation quite some time after the initial injury. Dr. Hutchinson took a lot of time to discuss the pros and cons of doing surgery. He helped us to understand and feel comfortable with the decision. I felt like my concerns were not only heard but also considered while making the decision to do surgery.
Dr hutch and assistant very good. didn't rush very professional. wood highly recommend.
Dr Hutchinson was arrogant and dismissive of the concerns I had regarding my child. The visit was a complete waste of my precious time. Will not be recommending him and will be telling my friends and family to NOT see him.
Dr. Hutchinson makes you feel like he has time for you as a patient
Dr. H was very engaging and realistic about what he could do or not do. He made a plan of action and we are working down the list. The big thing coming from out of state is how he made my time feel just as valuable as his and I appreciated that nod of humanity.
Dr. Hutchinson is caring and competent. He is the best.
Dr Hutchinson is a world expert in hand surgery. He is compassionate, kind, thorough and empathetic.
Such a great experience!
The doctor and sports therapist quickly diagnosed my problem and explained it to me clearly
Great explanations with visuals. Personable and caring. Gave a feeling of confidence that left me with no fear.
Very good

He is great! It was my first time seeing him and he was amazing. Very caring and kind.
Very caring and open minded to listen to my thoughts
Great doc Great intern
Some lack of interest in listening to my symptoms
The doctor and his assistants were excellent
Loved Dr. Hutchinson. He put me at ease right away by asking me jokingly if I was a new mother since new mothers often get the kind of pain that I had in my wrist.
Excellent care
Dr. Hutchinson remembers everything that has been discussed in the pass and proceeds to treat with accuracy and care in your progress for a better you!
Excellent care
Very good physician who in invested in patient care, listens, and provides optimal care. I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Hutchinson.

Quick, accurate diagnosis of my issue. I truly appreciate the professionalism.
Dr. Hutchinson is outstanding and his resident was very good as well.
Dr. Hutchinson always includes us in his suggestions. We have recommended Dr. Hutchinson to our family members which they used him for their daughters needs.
I was involved in every decision. Dr. Hutchinson was very open. He laid out 3 plans giving me the the risk and benefits to each one. Then he allowed me to decide which one I wanted. I was very impressed with his bedside manner.
Very caring and explains treatment plans even a child can understand . Will definitely refer him to other's.
Very good doctor with so much knowledge
Such a great guy!
Everything written about Dr. HUTCHINSON compells MD to select him for my surgery. He exceeds my expectations!
Hutch is the expert's expert in hand surgery.

Very personable and friendly and down to earth. Felt very comfortable with his diagnosis and suggestions
Dr Hutchinson is great! Knowledgable, caring, practical and pleasant.
I took the time to search for an orthopedic surgeon and comparing before finally choosing Dr. Hutchinson. I was elated at my decision in selecting him for my surgery.
Dr. Hutchinson is a great person, he explains everything to me in detail before my hand surgery. He is very easy to talk to about any concerns, he has a great sense of humor. I highly recommend him.
Pleasant, compassionate, informative.
He provided the diagnosis, told me what the treatment options were, gave his recommendations. It was a good visit, and I am excited about getting the carpal tunnel taken care of!
Doctor was willing to try additional options before recommending more surgery. Exhaust alternatives.
God Bless Dr. Hutchinson and his staff
He has been my doctor for over seven years. He is expert n his field.
He was cheerful and flexible. He listen to all of my comments and concerns.

Highest respect for Dr. Hutch. Brilliant, human and explains the issues clearly. 5 Star
Dr Hutchinson is now my favorite doctor. Caring, compassionate, friendly . . ., he listens and respects your thoughts and concerns. I look forward to completing my surgery with him as my doctor.
Dr. Hutchinson saw me last in 2015, yet still remembered me & my issues. I observed the respect he has not only for his patients, but for all the staff as well. The staff genuinely reciprocated the respect to Dr. H.
I have had the best care with Dr. Hutchinson and his staff!
He's amazing! Funny! Relates well. Knowledgeable. My son loved him. Realistic and not ivory tower.
Dr. Hutchinson was great! He explained the medical issue I'm dealing with in terms that we're very understandable and told me what I should expect from treatment.
Excellent doctor
Dr. Hutchison is a wonderful, amazing man and doctor!
Got great news!
I expressed two concerns, only one was addressed
very helpful and thorough exam
He is the best! He's very caring and amazing doctor.
So glad he was my Doc
I really liked Dr. Hutchinson! He is kind, smart, and very knowledgeable. Loved his staff too!
10 out of 10
Dr. Hutchinson was a second opinion on my hand injury and everything was handled differently from my first doctor. It was carefully explained beforehand, executed well, and recovery and physical therapy resulted in a much better outcome! I am so glad I found him and highly recommend him and his team.
I highly recommend Dr. Douglas T. Hutchinson for his expertise, knowledge and ability to provide alternatives treatments as he takes consideration of the patient input prior to given diagnosis and cure.
I have not had experience with the actual surgery of my elbow with Dr. Hutchinson. I have carpal tunnel syndrome in my hand as well. However, at my consultation with him, he was very kind, patient, and thoroughly explained my options to relieve my pain in my elbow and my hand.
Hutch is absolutely the best. He is a rock star surgeon who cares about patients.
Always helps me and then gives me plan
Hutch and his team are the best!
Dr Hutchinson is a very knowledgeable, kind and compassionate doctor. He always listens to my concerns then explains what can be done to correct the problem. I would recommend him to my family and friends.
I really like this doctor. Unfortunately the results of the surgery I had on [DATE REMOVED] were not successful, and I need to go back into surgery. Bummer!
Hutch is Nuts! I really enjoy his approach to health care. Treats me as an equal. Great Person and Nurses and PA'S.
Hutch is wonderful
The doctor didn't appear to listen to my concerns and I felt belittled about the pain I was experiencing. After the visit, I read the documented note submitted in my chart and learned I may have issues with CRPS and the side effects of surgery (which is recommended by the doctor). None of the information noted in the documentation was shared with me during the office visit.
This was a Great experience from start to finish. Never once was I uncomfortable about things going on!
I love him, hes extremely well qualified and has a sense of humor
The Dr was very sweet, and kind. He is concerned for his patients and shares his knowledge.
As I stated in a previous section. I trust him. He reccomends whats best for the patient and is honest
My experience went very well and I am so impressed with the doctor! I like a doctor with a good bedside manner and he has it!
I saw Dr. Doug Hutchinson at the request of one of my health care providers for a second opinion on whether I should have surgery on the median nerve in my right wrist to address a possible carpal tunnel syndrome condition. Dr. Hutchinson was very professional but personable and provided me with a candid diagnosis of my condition.
Skilled clinician.
i trust him completly had operation on left wrist in 2001
Dr Hutchinson is Phenomenal !! Wouldn't go anywhere else, have total confidence in his work
it was a good experience but I would much rather see him in person. it's not the same to have a virtual session especially when its about your joint, and need to test your movement etc.
the doctors and other staff were all excellent friendly, listen to everything we had to say, and answered all my questions.
I don't get much info from the Dr he just looks at the x-rays as how's my pain doesn't answer any of my questions I asked the nurse I always leave unsure of whats next questions are not answered
He was very personable and explained things so you understood both pros and cons with my issue and knew I was in a hurry and was sensitive to that as well. Great bedside manners.
Dr Hutchinson is very caring, very personable and is a great doctor.
I enjoy Dr. Hutchinson as my doctor. He is very proficient while keeping the communication relaxed.
Very kind and attentive doctor, able to work with me on the plan of care.
a wonderful man and doctor.
Excellent surgeon. My hand works perfectly
Douglas T. Hutchinson is a great surgeon and an even better person.
He listened and was very kind he went over the risks of a possible surgery which is what we respected. We want truthful advice and he gave that to us.
He is very caring professional dr.
Just the wait time would be my concern in recommending him to someone else
Everyone was amazing.
MD popped into room for 5 minutes twice, total time spent in clinic was 3 hrs. Started to discuss surgery and then MD left room, didn't say if he was coming back. 45 mins later I asked the nurse what the plan was. She then came back to have me sign surgical consent. Risks, benefits and post surgical expectations were not discussed by MD. He never did return to room.
amazing doctor. felt very well cared for when he finally arrived in the room. genuinely concerned about my concerns and orthopedic problem.
He was extremely positive and optimistic about being able to help my son get the rest of his mobility back 1 year post elbow surgery with Dr Makerewich.
dr hutchinson was absolutely amazing! he made my concerns feel validated, and he came up with a plan of treatment that worked well for both of us. he is by far one of the best providers i have ever seen. if anyone i know is in need of an orthopedic provider, i will definitely be sending them his way. thank you so much to him and his wonderful staff!

Dr Hutch is the best. He is what a surgeon should be.
The best hand surgeon in SLC. Hugh does wonderful work.
Dr.Hutchinson is a great doctor, he explained everything I needed to know about an upcoming surgery on my hand. He is very caring and professional. A very good doctor that I can trust in treating my needs.
Dr. Hutchinson is a caring, knowledgeable physician. He understood my problem nd solved it.
The best
This is my 4th time seeing Hutch. In the past I really appreciated his skill and insight. This visit, he hadn't event glanced at my file; he entered the room telling me what I needing to do and only after I reminded him of my history did he realize that what he was saying was not germane to my presentation. He then pulled up my file and reviewed it.
My daughter was a very scared 4 yr old and he was immediately able to engage her and help her relax and cooperate with him. He explained things so well to me that the anxiety I was feeling about whether or not my daughter needed surgery was completely gone. He answered all my questions and gave me the information I was there to get in the first place.
Very comfortable to be around
