(SALT LAKE CITY)—The University of Utah Health Sciences has announced appointments to four major positions in research, finance, curriculum and human resources, with two of the positions being filled internally and two being filled by candidates who emerged from highly competitive national searches.
Dean Y. Li, M.D., Ph.D., has been named to the newly created position of associate vice president for research. Li, a cardiologist and professor of medicine at the University of Utah, is a widely recognized physician-scientist in vascular development and disease. In addition to his new position, Li will continue in his current roles of vice dean for research at the School of Medicine and chief scientific officer for University of Utah Health Care.
David H. Browdy has been selected as associate vice president for finance and chief financial officer for the University Health Sciences Center. Browdy comes from the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University, where he has served in leadership positions for 20 years, most recently as senior associate dean for finance and administration and chief operating officer.
The University of Utah School of Medicine has appointed Danielle Roussel, M.D., as its new assistant dean for clinical curriculum. Roussel, assistant professor of anesthesiology, brings excellent experience to her new position, including serving as course director and curricula developer for the medical student anesthesiology, pharmacology and cardiovascular/pulmonary/renal system courses. She also serves on the medical school's Curriculum Committee and Curriculum Implementation Committee.
University of Utah Hospitals & Clinics has announced that Dale Spartz, Ph.D., assumed the role of chief human resources officer, effective June 17, 2013. Spartz comes from Stanford Hospital & Clinics in Palo Alto, Calif., where he served as vice president of human resources. Prior to his position at Stanford, Spartz was an HR leader at multiple hospitals across the country.
