Utes Football Team Helps Save Lives

Did you know a football helmet can stop internal bleeding? Not only is this protective gear helpful on the field but also in a hospital ICU.

In the medical intensive care unit doctors use Blakemore tubes to stop internal bleeding. In order to successfully complete this, slight pressure must be placed on the tube- this is where a football helmet comes into play. In order to create the right amount of pressure and keep the tube in place doctors place a football helmet on the patient.

University Hospital was in need of a new helmet and the Utes Football team stepped in to donate a new helmet to the unit.
