An infant's race or ethnicity could prevent her from receiving the best medical treatment. Failure to recognize that a patient in the emergency department has a blood infection may mean that he won't receive necessary, life-saving therapeutic interventions. Examples like these prompt a question: How can patients be treated effectively if their specific circumstances and preferences are not recognized, or even prevent them from receiving optimal care?
Health services research examines how people access health care, how much care costs, and what happens to patients as a result of this care. Research investigating data quality practices can identify the most effective ways to organize, manage, finance, and deliver high quality equitable care. These data can also reduce medical errors and improve patient safety.
The Health Services Research Conference Program Committee invites current and future researchers, policy makers, clinicians, administrators, public health practitioners, and other interested members of the community to attend the 10th annual Utah Health Services Research Conference: Considering Data Quality in Health Services Research. The goals of the conference are to promote health services research projects in Utah and to facilitate interaction and communication among individuals interested in patient centered health services research.
The conference is hosted by the Patient Centered Research Methods Core of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) at the University of Utah, the CCTS Program Office, Healthinsight, and Intermountain Institute for Health Care Delivery Research.
