University of Utah Health today announced that the Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital has been named a Center of Excellence in Rehabilitation Services by the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ). The Center of Excellence (COE) designation means that the Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital meets stringent evidence-based standards and performance outcomes that reflect high quality and safe patient care.
The COE achievement validates a commitment to driving rehabilitation technology innovation, achieving outstanding outcomes, and delivering exceptional patient experience beyond what other programs can provide.
To obtain a COE, a hospital must undergo a rigorous on-site survey. The survey is one or two days in length and is conducted by one of CIHQ’s senior surveyors – individuals who are specifically trained to accurately determine compliance to COE standards.
A COE designation also demonstrates mutli-disciplinary achievement. In order to be considered a ‘center of excellence’, the following services must be provided at an individual hospital:
- Rehabilitative Nursing Services
- Physical Therapy Services
- Occupational Therapy Services
- Speech Language & Pathology Services
- Recreational Therapy Services
- Vocational Rehabilitation & Counseling Services
- Prosthetic/Orthotic Services
- Social Work/Case Management Services
“Since its opening in 2020, the Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital team has worked tirelessly to achieve this prestigious designation,” said David Steinberg, M.D., chair of the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, University of Utah Health. “This outstanding recognition from the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality represents our team’s steadfast commitment to the highest level of quality, safety, and outcomes in patient care. We are extremely proud to be named an official Center of Excellence.”
