The U.S. News & World Report 2024-2025 Best Hospitals Rankings have rated University of Utah Hospital #1 in Utah and the Salt Lake City metro area for the 11th consecutive year. The John A. Moran Eye Center is ranked #10 in the country for ophthalmology care and Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital is ranked #27 for rehabilitation care. Huntsman Cancer Institute was ranked “high performing” in cancer care. Other areas ranked “high performing” include urology, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology, and lung surgery.
U.S. News & World Report evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 12 specialties, procedures, and conditions for its 2024 rankings. This rigorous assessment includes factors such as risk-adjusted survival rates, discharge-to-home rates, nursing quality, and other indicators of top-quality patient care.
“I am immensely grateful for our dedicated faculty, staff, and team members who tirelessly dedicate their time to our patient community,” said Dan Lundergan, CEO of U of U Health Hospitals & Clinics. “This recognition is a testament to the exceptional care provided in our organization. Being recognized year after year is an outstanding achievement for our teams. This continued tradition of excellence demonstrates the strength and commitment of University of Utah Health.”
This is the fifth year that U.S News & World Report has ranked the Moran Eye Center, long designated as high performing, on its published list of the top eye centers in the nation. The ophthalmology ranking is determined entirely by expert opinion, based on responses from three years of surveys of ophthalmologists.
“I am grateful to my colleagues for this recognition of the outstanding specialty care at the Moran Eye Center,” said Randall J Olson, M.D., CEO and Distinguished Professor at the Moran Eye Center. “This ranking marks our third year in the top 10 and the word is out: Utah is home to some of the best eye care patients facing sight-threatening diseases and conditions can find in the United States.”
Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital made a significant leap in the U.S. News & World Report rankings this year, moving from #47 to #27 in the country.
“This marks a significant recognition of our commitment to exceptional quality and patient experience,” said David Steinberg, M.D., executive medical director of Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital and chair of the U’s Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. “Our dedicated nurses, therapists, doctors, and staff are the cornerstone of our success. Thanks to all those who have contributed to building and strengthening our clinical, education, and research programs.”
