Weight Loss Surgery Costs: Self-Pay
If your insurance doesn’t cover bariatric surgery, some patients pay for their surgery using our self-pay option. If you are using self-pay for your bariatric surgery, below is a list of fees you will be charged:
|Covered Services*||Gastric Bypass||Sleeve Gastrectomy|
|BLISCare insurance premium||$2,591||$1,843|
The prices listed above also include post-op care for one year after your surgery from your surgeon and dietitian. **Prices are approximate and subject to change without notice.**
*These fees are for patients who will not be billing their insurance for any portion of their surgery. This is a list of the typical charges most patients have for bariatric surgery. These prices do not include any additional testing you may need.
If you are using self-pay, you will need to pay the total fee in full at your pre-op appointment. We accept all major credit cards. You can also use third party financing to pay for your surgery.
No Insurance? Purchase BlisCare Insurance

What Is BLISCare?
University of Utah Health's bariatric surgeons are BLIS surgeons. Becoming a BLIS Surgeon is a very selective process determined exclusively by BLIS. This means that we meet very high standards for short-term outcomes and long-term patient success.
Because we are approved by BLIS, we are able to participate in an innovative new insurance coverage which allows us to make a unique commitment to our self-pay patients:
- If you have a covered complication within a certain time frame after your surgery, you are not responsible for the costs associated with caring for that complication.
** This complication protection is only offered as part of the package price for your weight loss surgery. We are happy to provide this benefit to our patients, easing your mind and your wallet in this important decision to have a life-saving surgery.
**Other terms and conditions apply. Please contact our office and review the self-pay contract for further details about this program.
