Services for Those with Parkinson’s Disease

SPEAK OUT!® and The LOUD Crowd®

The University of Utah Voice Disorders Center now offers a two-part speech pathology therapy program to individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease to regain and maintain effective communication.

This program is virtual and can be completed from the comfort of your own home.

SPEAK OUT!® is a communication training program that helps individuals with Parkinson’s Disease improve their speaking ability through emphasis on speaking with greater intention rather than speaking using automatic patterns. A series of voice, speaking, and cognitive exercises are completed as outlined in the SPEAK OUT!® workbook. The SPEAK OUT!® program is typically supported by most insurance programs.

Upon graduation from the SPEAK OUT!® program, participants can join The LOUD Crowd® wellness group.  This group is free of charge to participants to help maintain the skills achieved during the SPEAK OUT!® program. The LOUD Crowd® program consists of one weekly session that is lead by one of our team speech-language pathologists.

The SPEAK OUT!® exercises are performed to help participants remember how to maintain their skills and group members contribute their own personal touch for group-based encouragement, accountability, and support to one another.

The LOUD Crowd® group meets weekly in the same building as the Voice Disorders Center (also known as the Imaging Neuroscience Center) in the large conference room on Tuesdays from 4-4:50 pm. Our address is: 729 Arapeen Drive, Salt Lake City, UT 84132.
