Marta Petersen, MD has specialized expertise in complex medical dermatology. She is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Dermatology and is participating in Maintenance of Certification in Dermatology. Her main clinical focus is diagnosis and treatment of non-healing leg ulcers (non-diabetic), pyoderma gangrenosum, autoimmune skin diseases including blistering disease, and skin eruptions related to underlying diseases. She is a director on the American Board of Dermatology, which certifies dermatologists, and is past-president of the Medical Dermatology Society.

Dr Peterson's expertise resolved a problem with ankle ulcers that I have experienced for more than two years. Even the wound-care podiatrist had limited experience effects of with hydroxyurea which caused the ulcers. Dr. Peterson identified the problem when she first walked into the room on our first visit.

Would highly recommend this care giver. Was very friendly and courteous. Was very knowlegeble about my problem and spoke in a language I could understand. She showed great concern for my problem and had suggestions how it could be resolved. I was included in the decision making of my care. The process of follow up care was explained to me.

Academic Bio

Dr. Marta Petersen, a professor of dermatology, is the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Dermatology and the Director of the Utah Telehealth Network.

Dr. Petersen's clinical expertise is in the diagnosis and treatment of non-healing leg ulcers (non-diabetic), pyoderma gangrenosum, autoimmune skin diseases including blistering disease, and skin eruptions related to underlying diseases. She has wide-ranging research interests throughout her career such as mechanisms of photoaging, blistering disorders, and telemedicine. She began the Utah Telehealth Network in 1996, providing clinical and educational services through the state. Dr. Petersen is currently doing a study evaluating the use of home monitoring for chronic health conditions.

Dr. Petersen is currently the Director of the American Board of Dermatology and a past-president of the Medical Dermatology Society. She has been an associate editor for the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology and is currently a reviewer for several dermatology journals. Serving as the Residency Program Director for 20 years, she is still involved and interested in the education of residents as the Assistant Program Director in the Department of Dermatology. Dr. Petersen has authored or co-authored close to 40 journal articles and book chapters.
