  • After finishing medical school at St. Louis University, Dr. Overton completed training in Anesthesia at the University of Utah and fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine at the University of Iowa. He has since been employed at the University of Utah and Salt Lake City VA Medical as an Anesthesiologist and Intensivist. Within the department of Anesthesiology he serves as Vice Chair and Section Head of Critical Care Services. Dr. Overton also serves as Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care unit where he leads a team of physicians providing both routine post cardiac surgery care and advanced mechanical support.

    In addition to his administrative roles Dr. Overton also remains active in medical education and clinical medicine. He routinely lectures on advanced critical care topics and serves on the medical school applicant selection committee. His leadership role and clinical work in the CVICU has developed into interest in advanced heart failure and mechanical support. He plays a key role in the ECMO program and has interest in promoting ECMO education within the region.
