Dr. Barlow is an experienced comprehensive ophthalmologist and ocular surgeon with a specific interest in cataract and refractive surgery. He has experience performing complex cataract surgery, femtosecond laser cataract surgery, and refractive surgeries, such as LASIK, PRK, ICL, and clear lens extraction using premium intraocular lens technologies, including toric, multifocal, and accommodative intraocular lenses. The NA took good notes, including my concern about my left eye lid having an irritation under/inside it. Dr Barlow did very well relating all the notes back to me, however neither of us remembered to discuss the irritation under/inside my left eye lid. This is still a concern to me since it bothers me daily. I don't know what can be done about it but I'm concerned it will just be worse with cataract surgery, especially during healing time. I will message him about it.

When asked if I had any questions, I had replied "no," but I certainly did have questions when I learned of the doctor's findings. Fortunately, a close relative of mine is also an ophthalmologist and was more than happy to answer my questions.

I was really grateful Dr. Barlow understood I wasnt seeing as clearly in my left eye as I was in my right eye. He checked both eyes for problems and found some cloudiness in my left eye, which had had the cataract removed a couple years ago. He said we could get rid of it by using Laser surgery that same day. Now I can see just as clearly in my left eye. I was so impressed when h?e said we could take care of it right now instead of making another appointment.

I had cataract surgery and am not totally happy with the outcome, but nobody has asked me about it. It would be helpful if Dr. Barlow asked me about my subjective experience related to the sugical outcome. I mentioned I couldn't read well at all and he did not seem concerned or interested in pursuing a conversation about it. I am planning to go to an optometrist (not at Moran) to see if I can get a better understanding of my vision challenges.

I have had an eye inflammation and dry eye treated by another provider out of the country. I was here to get my eyes examined for contact lenses and to receive some help with the continued eye problems. I expressed that the short term medications I was weaning myself from were not addressing the problem long term. I said I will need something else. Rather than address that at the appointment, the provider simply said, well, send us a message when you need something else. I thought I was saying I needed soemthing else at this time, but he seemed to not hear my concern.

I am not one to complain about my experiences, but I have to admit that I didn't feel listened to. I rarely go and see a doctor unless something feels really wrong. Because symptoms of dry eye are so common in Utah, I felt like my complaints of severe eye pain were downplayed and was just pushed through the appointment as an "easy, routine fix". He only suggested treatments that I had already tried and didn't listen when I said those options weren't really working and the pain is hard to handle. I also didn't appreciate the doctor staring at the computer screen more than at me and rushing through the process. Overall, I didn't leave feeling like I saw a provider who cared much about me.

Dr Barlow was condescending and impatient. His nurse spent more time with me than he did. He offered me my choice of treatment, either OTC or RX, which made me uneasy. if I was qualified to make that decision, I would have. he had no idea of the cost of the medications,(over $500 on Good RX) Honestly, I was so uncomfortable that I will be canceling my follow up and going somewhere else. I was there on a referral from my Rheumatologist, and I am quite certain Dr Barlow hadn't even read my chart. Sorry to go off, I wasn't planning on saying anything. I just didn't want to return. when I received the survey, I decided to share my experience

I came in because I needed my yearly eye exam but also because my right eye has really been bothering my. Dr. Barlow really did not address it other than saying it is most likely dry eyes. I explained that I have had dry eyes for years but the pain I was feeling was new. I went to Moran because you are the experts in eye care but I will most likely return to my previous eye care provider because I feel comfortable and cared about in that office.

A drug, Gilenya, was decreasing my vision. That was hard to hear. Dr. Barlow was very professional about his explanation, but still told me how sorry he was about the situation. When he walked me out he made sure I saw him, then a retina specialist the next day. Appts set for the first week of February. During my visit he also looked up the drug and MS. I felt like he was truly trying to help.

Dr Barlow seemed very rushed the day I saw him. I was told that the floater/flashes/spots I had were normal with aging. Translation: Another little old lady looking for a problem to whine about!!He was leaving the room when I asked if all this is normal, why can't I see? He then rechecked one eye and stated it was a little cloudy. This condition can be cleared up with a small laser procedure which we will pursue.Please note the Dr Barlow repaired cataracts in both eyes two years ago and I was very pleased with his care. Very different feel. to this appt!

The assistant who did the intial screenings and measurements was fantastic. But I did not have a good experience with the doctor. I felt like he couldn't wait to get out of the room. I scheduled my appointment because I felt like I needed a new prescription and possibly contacts to wear all the time instead of just glasses as needed. They saw that I have diabetes so they both just immediately did a diabetic exam. This was my first eye exam with diabetes, so I thought this was normal. When the doctor came in, he reviewed what the assistant had done, asked a couple of questions, then was ready to walk out the door. I told him I wanted to discuss contacts or glasses. He simply printed out my prescription, handed it to me, and said I could look for glasses anywhere, or could schedule another appointment to talk about contacts. I thought that is what I was doing in this appt. My first appt at Moran Eye Center last year was not very impressive either. I will look elsewhere for my eye needs. I'm sad because I love everything else about your clinics and have never had a bad experience with anything else.

Only one concern. He prescribed an eye drop that needs a per-authorizaion from my insurance and I'm fairly certain that he and your staff would have been aware of that fact. None of the required information was forwarded to my insurance carrier i.e., I still don't have my prescription and there is no end in sight. I wouldn't have come in to the clinic, a 3 hour drive from my home if I didn't feel the problem was urgent. But here I am still waiting for an Rx to be approved. Was there another drug that would work as well and if yes maybe that should have been offered as a substitute..

The administrator was very helpful and advised us of the delay. The doctor immediately handled the problem when he arrived. The information before the appointment and during the exam was lacking or no reason was given why another exam was being given. I have vitreous detachment in my left eye. The day I came in I was seeing flashes of light and new floaters, but in my right eye. The doctor took 2 seconds looked at it and told me I have a new detachment in my right eye and they would schedule an appointment for me to meet with a retina specialist. He didn't explain anything. Then in the doctors notes it shows he explained it all to me and told me the signs to look for. He did not, he gave me a printout and sent me on my way. The nurse and office staff was wonderful, but the doctor needs to work on his "bedside manner".

I really like Dr. Barlow. I think he's a great doctor. However, due to the high volume of patients that he sees, in addition to supervising a student/resident, he did not have a lot of time to discuss the concerns that I had which weren't many but I did feel a little dismissed. Specifically, I had a question/concern about excessive glare/halos with the Symphony Lens that I have, which apparently is a common occurrence with this lens (something that was not explained to me prior to the surgery). Dr. Barlow stated that this problem would significantly improve after about 6 months post surgery. Unfortunately, this was my 1 year check up and not only was this not the case but the glare is just as bad if not worse than it was right after the surgery. The experience was very invalidating since I expected him to have known that this was a 1 year follow up and not a 1 month follow up. I felt like he was just throwing out some basic and routine information that he uses to respond to everyone's concerns regarding this issue. I know Dr. Barlow means well but I would appreciate him being straight forward with me that this might be something that never gets any better rather than to wait for improvements that may never happen. But, when you only have literally a few minutes to spend with each patient before having to run to see the next, especially at 4:30 in the afternoon, I get why he would opt for unrealistic optimism rather than harsh realities which could turn into 30 minute

I expected a conversation to be had about what may have caused my cataract; questions asked of me about my past. The optometrist in my small Town told me I had a cataract and needed surgery. This visit told me the same thing but I expected to understand more about why it occurred so quickly (I go every year for a check up and there were no signs of a cataract last year). I was told the cause doesn't matter, as the treatment is the same, no matter the cause. That may be, but I would still like to know more about the cause. This would help me understand ifl my other eye develop a cataract as well.

I felt that the Dr. did not give me a very thorough eye-exam. I have macular degeneration and that was not even addressed. The prescription given for my glasses was not right. I had the glasses made ($600.) and when I picked them up last Friday (July 28) I found that I cannot see to read or sew through the right lens. The new Prescription was way weaker than my old glasses. They even made my eye hurt. I only wore them for a few hours and then I went back to my old ones. Now I have to wait another week and a half before I can be seen to have a new prescription written. YES!!!!! I am very unhappy!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was frustrated because the Toric lens I purchased to correct the astigmatism in my eyes only worked on one eye. The reason I was given for the failure was that sometimes the machine just measures incorrectly. Dr. Barlow was sympathetic toward my disappointment and offered to correct the problem surgically or with laser treatment at any time now or in the future, but I don't want any more surgery or recovery time from surgery at this time. I am disappointed that I paid $1,350 for something that the machine screwed up and that there is no refund available and that I'll have to continue to have the additional expense of having to wear glasses.

I was handed an info sheet which had other options for dealing with my dry eye condition, which the doctor did not address. If there are various options for treatment, I would like to hear them while I'm in the office, not find out after I get home. My only complain is that I had to ask every time that Dr. Barlow and his assistant also the resident Dr were talking about my condition. When I was seen by Dr. Mamalis, he would explain every step of the way what he is doing, why he is doing it and would tell me the result of each step. I need to be included in the discussion about my eyes. Even if I didn't have any college degrees, the Dr should find a way to communicate with me what is he doing and why.

Dr. Barlow actually listened to what I had to say, and took that into account with the exam. He asked questions, and then at the end of the exam he asked me if there was anything that he hadn't covered, and gave me time to think and ask questions. What a difference! After surgery I had pain, saw flashing strobe lights and could barely read the top line of the chart on the wall. I am very grateful that I can see small print if it is black on white. However, any other color contrasts still require standing by a window or bright light and I still have a vibrating halo effect. I have been patient as I was told it should improve. Now it has healed and I would understand if someone just explained that the result is what had been expected.

I waited a long time in the exam room for the doctor to come in. When he did come in I felt like he was in a rush to be somewhere else. He barely made eye contact and scanned through my chart really fast repeating what was on the screen. After the exam which lasted no more than 5 minutes, he walked me out towards the front desk and just pointed towards a general area saying "she'll check you out over there" and then he turned around and went back down the hall. This is my second experience with this same doctor and the first visit was pretty much the same as this one. I will be switching to another physician for my next appointment. I usually get excellent care from the University of Utah location as all of my doctors are located there, however I do not get the same treatment from the Moran Eye Center.

I was disappointed in his explaining results of exam. He seemed in a hurry and simply said he could do nothing before correcting the "dry eyes", and handed me the summary sheet without reviewing the 4 diagnosis items with me, whose definitions I had to look up on the Internet when I returned home. He did not seem to want to describe his findings to help me know what to expect in the future. In short, I didn't know enough to know what questions I should ask to know what the future visits might (could) produce. His assistant provided more insight into current conditions - other than the "dry eyes" than did Dr. Barlow. I still don't know what "Combined forms of age-related cataract..." means.

This was the first time I had seen Dr. Barlow and I could not have been happier with the care I received. He was warm, friendly and professional. He took a lot of time to explain my condition and treatment options. His staff informed me of the cost of a potential surgical procedure and then got insurance authorization. I opted for the procedure which went very well. Three days later my eyelid had completely recovered from the surgery and the problem was cured.

The doctor was good, but I really don't feel comfortable with a technician doing the eye exam, and determining the prescription of new lenses. The physician did come in for about 5 minutes at the end and checked for eye diseases etc. which was good. He was very easy to talk to and made me feel comfortable.

Doctor didn't tell me what exactly was going on and just gave me an antibiotic without letting me know what it was for. I told him I'm pretty sure my tear duct is blocked up and he didn't do anything about it. I have no idea what an antibiotic would do for me. And I'm still experiencing the problem, and taking an antibiotic for nothing and will need to pay again to come in and be seen by another doctor.

Eye doctors I have seen in the past are the ones who make measurements for my kid new glassess. But this time the doctor just relied on what his assistant measured. Dr. Barlow is an experienced comprehensive ophthalmologist and ocular surgeon with a specific interest in cataract and refractive surgery. He has experience performing complex cataract surgery, femtosecond laser cataract surgery, and refractive surgeries, such as LASIK, PRK, ICL, and clear lens extraction using premium intraocular lens technologies, including toric, multifocal, and accommodative intraocular lenses. He also provides medical and surgical care for a variety of other ocular conditions. His research interests include cataract surgical techniques, equipment, and intraocular lens calculations. He has an open practice welcoming new patients.
