Dr. Matthew Steimle received his medical degree from Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Wayne State University, and his Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at the Georgia Regents. He then completed a second fellowship in Emergency Ultrasound also at Georgia Regents and worked as a member of the Medical College of Georgia faculty for two years before joining the University.

Dr. Steimle is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah and is in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) at Primary Children´s Hospital. He is currently the PEM Ultrasound Medical Director. His specific clinical interests include: clinical teaching, pediatric emergency ultrasound, trauma, and critical care. Created an Online POCUS curriculum for POCUS learners geared toward pediatric residents completing the elective and also as a library and resource for PEM fellows and faculty This 1-week elective will provide the learner with video learning as well as simulated and hands-on instruction in emergent ultrasound.  Skills taught will include basic lung and cardiac ultrasound, E-FAST, and peripheral/central IV access with the goals of understanding how to identify hemothorax, pneumothorax, basic cardiac function, cardiac tamponade, IVC fluid status, and intraperitoneal fluid.  Pre-requisite for this course includes an interest in a career in PEM, PICU, NICU, or Global Health.    *** Course enrollment requires contacting and confirming availability with course faculty (Drs.
