  • Shaun Chatelain, DO, is a geriatrician in the Sugarhouse Health Center and Madsen Health Center Geriatrics clinics.     Originally from snowy Utah, Shaun studied osteopathic medicine at Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated in 2014. He then went on to Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Arizona in Tucson. After finishing residency, he completed a fellowship in Geriatrics at the University of Utah.

    Dr. Chatelain attended The Utah State University and majored in biological engineering prior to medical school. He is an avid supporter of Utah State athletics, in particular, Aggie basketball. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, skiing, and fly fishing and spending time with his wife, toddler and Pomeranian.

    I chose Geriatrics. They sent me Doc Chatelain. I'm very happy that they did. He listens, discusses options, and makes suggestions that are easily adopted.

    I'm a lawyer. I deal with ego all the time, and it complicates relationships. Some physicians, like some judges, take themselves way too seriously and view patients as "less important than I.am." There is none of that in Dr. Chatelain's temperament. Though I'm a patient, he makes me feel like a trusted and valued colleague in the matter of how to keep me healthy. He's an effective translator of the technical language of medicine, to ensure that the hay is down where the goats can get it. I like that. He has a warm and caring bedside manner that inspires confidence. Most important to me, he takes the time to be thorough and to be sure I understand what I need to know. On a scale of one to ten, I'm very pleased that he's a fifteen.

    Dr. Chatelain is younger than me, which portends that I will have him as the geriatric doctor for the rest of my life. That is a relief. He has a casual demeanor. When your doctor is relaxed, the patient feels relaxed too.
