Nathan Wanner, MD, is an Associate Professor within the Division of General Internal Medicine and the Department of Internal Medicine at the University Hospital. He is the Director of the University of Utah Hospitalist Group and is also the Medical Director of the University of Utah Palliative Care Service. As a Hospitalist, he enjoys taking care of hospitalized patients with a variety of acute medical problems. His specific clinical interests include palliative care, inpatient pain management, and thromboembolic (clotting) disorders.

Dr. Wanner received his MD from Indiana University School of Medicine. He received training in Internal Medicine from the University of Utah where he received the William D. Odell Award as the Outstanding Senior Resident and also served as Chief Medical Resident. Dr. Wanner is also certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Nathan Wanner, MD, is an Associate Professor at the University Hospital. He has been the Director of the University of Utah Hospitalist Group since 2012. As a Hospitalist, his specific academic interests include palliative care, communication skills training, inpatient pain management, documentation improvement, and thromboembolism.

Dr. Wanner enjoys teaching in a wide variety of different settings and has been recognized by receiving the Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award and being nominated for the Early Career Teaching Award. He has helped teach the Physical Diagnosis and Science of Medicine Courses to second year medical students and is a regular lecturer and facilitator at internal medicine teaching conferences.

Dr. Wanner has been the University of Utah Palliative Care Service Medical Director since 2011. He has also spoken on palliative care topics at multiple local and regional conferences and served as the director of an online CME course.

Dr. Wanner has spoken at a number of local and regional conferences on topics related to thromboembolism with periprocedural management of antithrombotic medications being a particular focus. He has also served as an investigator on numerous thrombosis-related research projects.
