  • Laura Johnson is a nurse practitioner at the University of Utah within the division of Gastroenterology (GI) and Hepatology. She sees GI patients at both the Farmington location and University hospital clinics as well as virtually. She sees general GI concerns such as GERD, EoE, H pylori, SIBO, IBS, etc. She also sees a lot of patients with esophageal concerns of swallow such as achalasia, outflow obstruction. She also recently reopened the genetic GI high risk cancer clinic at the Huntsman which covers several GI dominant genetic mutations such as Lynch, FAP, juvenile polyposis syndrome, SMAD4 and CDH1 among others.

Laura has been in healthcare for over 15 years but began her nursing career in 2011, working primarily in women’s health and pediatrics. In her time at Primary Children's Hospital, she worked as a circulator in the endoscopy department where she gained a fundamental background in procedural GI care. Seeing a need for better outpatient education and coordination of care helped push her to advance her own knowledge and skills by pursuing further education. She graduated from Chamberlain University in Chicago, Illinois with her master’s degree in Family Nurse Practitioner studies in 2020.

Laura is passionate about educating, empowering and engaging her patients in their health journey. As a member of the American College of Gastroenterologists and the CGA-IGC, she attends annual classes and conferences to continue learning and keep up with current evidence-based care standards. When not caring for her patients at the University of Utah, she enjoys traveling around the U.S. and the world, kayaking, playing pickleball and working in her yard and garden. She is an avid baseball fan as well and tries to catch as many games in person as she can. Go Dodgers!

Laura E Johnson, APRN, was so smart, so intuitive, so informed, and she has a great ¿bedside¿ manner during virtual visits. She was so thorough in her explanations! She believes in empowering her patients to be a little better, not to try to be perfect, and recognizes the health value in educating individual patients. I was so impressed.
