  • Dr. Hamaker completed his training, including medical school, residency and fellowship, at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Following fellowship training, Dr. Hamaker accepted a position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics with the University of Utah School of Medicine. He is board certified in both General Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology.

    Dr. Hamaker’s early research experiences while in training included pediatric type 2 diabetes and the metabolic syndrome. He has completed scholarly work in the area of resident education and online curricula. His educational interests extend not only to student, resident and fellow training, but also in developing more accessible, meaningful and effective educational tools for patients and their families. His fluency in Spanish has provided him with extensive experience in caring for Spanish-only speaking families and patients.

    In addition to his interests in education, Dr. Hamaker has a special focus on patients with Cystic Fibrosis-Related Diabetes. In 2016, he began collaborating with the Cystic Fibrosis Center at Primary Children’s Hospital. He has since participated in a regular multi-specialty clinic that provides comprehensive care for patients with Cystic Fibrosis-Related Diabetes.
