He subsequently attended the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. After graduation, he continued at Johns Hopkins Hospital for his internship in the Osler Internal Medicine Program. Upon completion, he joined the neurology residency program at Johns Hopkins. In his final year of residency, he was elected co-executive chief. Following neurology residency, Dr. Mahoney completed fellowship in neuromuscular medicine at Johns Hopkins prior to moving to Salt Lake City, Utah. Clinical interests include a disparate range of conditions affecting the peripheral nervous system with a particular focus on autoimmune neuromuscular conditions such as myasthenia gravis, Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS), and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathies. Additionally, he has interests in neuromuscular pathology and electrodiagnostics. Dr. Mahoney also maintains general neurology clinics in Park City, Utah, and Jackson, Wyoming, at St. Johns Medical Center.

    Dr. Mahoney always takes the time to listen and understand concerns. He listens to questions and answers them fully. He allows me to advocate for myself and includes me in decisions about treatment and medication.
