Alyssa earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Biotechnology from Santa Clara University in 2010, then went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing from Pacific Lutheran University in Washington in 2016. In her first year of practice, she participated in a fellowship program in primary care at Community Healthcare Network in New York City, then continued there to solidify her skills in this multifaceted and diverse setting. After practicing Internal Medicine at Virginia Mason in Seattle, WA for two years, she moved on to the cutaneous medical oncology clinic at Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, UT. Alyssa works heavily with Dr. Siwen Hu-Lieskovan and her phase 1 immunotherapy clinical trial program, as well as two other melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers specialists, Dr. Joanne Jeter and Dr. Jeffrey Russell.

Alyssa loves being a nurse practitioner in oncology as she enjoys taking on new challenges and learning opportunities in the service of her patients. She feels it is a privilege to be allowed into each of her patients’ lives—especially when she is working with them during one of the hardest times of their lives. Alyssa is thrilled to be part of the melanoma team, where there is a strong sense of community, and patients are always the priority. When Alyssa is not helping patients at Huntsman Cancer Institute, you might find her running, biking, hiking or skiing on the mountains behind the hospital and beyond. She is a transplant to Salt Lake City, but feels like she has found her home in the mountains.

Alyssa Erickson-Wayman, Marianne Bowling, Andrew Lamb, Nick Slighting, and Olivia Mauchley exemplify the vital role nurses have in delivering high-quality care and outcomes at Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI). As a patient of HCI for six years, I observed first hand how these and other nurses closely coordinated with doctors to: collect and update health histories; order, monitor, and interpret lab test results; administer life saving treatments; evaluate and manage complications caused by cancer; and provide education and support to patients and their loved ones. On a larger scale, I feel confident there are thousands upon thousands of current and former patients along with their families who will remain forever grateful for the world-class care received from the doctors, nurses, and support staff at Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI).

Once my amazing oncologist felt treatment for my melanoma was successful, she turned my visits over to Alyssa Erickson-Wayman. Alyssa has been very attentive to me and been able to explain my test results.
