  • Dr. Spencer Carter was born in Boise Idaho, he graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame with a major in Science Business. He received his medical degree from the University of Washington. He then trained at the University of Texas Southwestern where he completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine. He continued at UTSW, completing fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, winning several excellence in teaching awards.

    In addition to advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, and transplant, Dr. Carter has a clinical expertise in infiltrative cardiomyopathies and cardiac amyloidosis. His academic interest is in implementation science, quality improvement, and medical education.

    He looks forward to working with trainees from medical students to fellows. Dr. Carter recently moved to Utah with his wife and looks forward to hiking, skiing, and backpacking.

    Dr. Carter will be seeing patients at the U of U Health Cardiovascular Medicine Clinic and the George H. Wahlen VA Medical Center. He will also be seeing patients in the Amyloidosis Clinic at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

    Dr Carter explained a very complex situation in an underandable way. He used my test results as well as research data to make an argument for his decision regarding my treatment. He also worked well with his fellow to deliver this information. He presented the news about my condition in a compassionate way ans he was interested in my thoughts ans concerns.
