  • Dr. Florido completed medical training at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, graduating cum laude. She received training in Internal Medicine at Boston University, where she was also selected to serve as a chief medical resident. She subsequently completed fellowships in cardiology and advanced heart failure at Johns Hopkins and a Master’s in Health Sciences at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, receiving numerous awards. She joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins in August of 2018, where she created and directed the cardio oncology program. In 2023 Dr. Florido joined the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant group at the University of Utah as an Associated Professor and the Director of Cardio-Oncology.

Dr. Florido has led several studies assessing the impact of lifestyle related factors such as physical activity and adiposity on reducing the risk of heart failure, both in the general population and in particular within high-risk subgroups. Additionally, she has examined the role of novel biomarkers of subclinical myocardial injury and fibrosis in the associations of physical activity and adiposity with incident heart failure. Within the field of cardio-oncology, she has examined the distribution of biomarkers of subclinical myocardial injury in cancer survivors as indicators of long-term heart failure risk. She has also studied the associations of cancer survivorship with cardiovascular disease events.

Dr. Florido has clinical expertise in advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, heart transplantation, and cardio-oncology. Her academic interests are in heart failure prevention and cardio oncology.

I could tell that Dr. Florido had read my past chart notes as well as the information sent from my oncologist. She had great bedside manners and was able to answer detailed questions. Highly recommend!

After waiting for over a half hour for Dr. Florida to confirm the labs prescribed by the resident, I needed to visit the bathroom and excused myself. Upon returning to the exam area I was told the labs were confirmed and I did not need to see Dr. Florida. As I was leaving the lab area, Dr. Florida approached and informed me I should start taking a new medication. The next day I received a notice that the labs were stable and I didn¿t need to make any changes in medications. This was confusing because I didn¿t know if that meant I didn¿t need to take the new medication the doctor had prescribed as I was departing from the hospital. I cannot address questions about the care she provided since we spent little time together, but did not feel respected by her.
