She was very good in explaining my condition. And I left knowing what my condition entails. What I came away with is that I have not suffered long enough with this Trigeminal Neuralgia since only been having the symptoms since February. I need to use meds to help mask the pain for 1-2 years. But by then I will be around 77-78 and too old for any surgeries. So I need to accept that this is my life now and adjust to it. That is far from what I was longing to hear!!!! I appreciate getting the appointment so soon and for the info that was shared with me. Thank you

I waited over an hour. I had to stand because I could not sit in the chair in the waiting room. I was suffering and I became agitated. I took my frustration out on the nurses which I am truly sorry for. Beverly helped to calm me down. I appreciate this. She also sent a note telling me about my high blood pressure. This is because of my agitated mood.
Dr North is very engaging and a joy to deal with. Reading a brain scan is difficult but she attempts to explain her diagnosis as she studies it.

I have already shared my experience with others encouraging them to seek help at the U of U.
PA North was extremely personable and professional and got me answers to questions I had for months. The fact that was nothing much they could to for this condition to make it go away except for medication or surgery I had no interest in was hard to hear but all was explained so I could understand.
Like I said I was going to supposed to have a follow-up call to finish from the actual doctor and I never got called back and waited and when I did get called back they just kind of acted like well we going to have to schedule something in the future which is fine but no other comment was made
She did not listen to what I was saying. She jumped on a word and used it repeatedly throughout the appointment even after I corrected her and said that is not the pain that I'm feeling. She quickly moved through a checklist to shoot down my diagnosis and sent me away to schedule more appointments after 5 years of going from one doc to the next about this issue. This was a prime example of medical gaslighting and I was shocked that a woman would do this to another woman.

She asked a lot of questions I hadn't even thought to answer and took very comprehensive notes while giving me a chance to express my issues and frustrations with my pain. She didn't mind having my husband on speaker phone with me during the appointment since he could not be there in person because of Covid. She identified what I had and also that I had signs of both the typical and atypical presentation. I wanted an easy fix like a one time surgery to cure the pain but because of the atypical presentation and no evidence of nerve compression on the imaging, she explained that it may do more harm than good. She didn't want to recommend me for surgery and have me have complications from a surgery that wasn't likely to have a good outcome for my pain. I was upset that I would have to live with this and she was very sensitive to this fact. Being away from the immediate situation and feelings I absolutely agree with her conclusion. She gave me an outline of what to do when I got back home and how I could have it managed medically. She gave suggestions for medications that would work with my current ones and to go to my primary care doc ASAP to get on medication as soon as possible while waiting for a neurology consult. Within a week of her final write up if my case she had a referral sent to the neurologist I wanted to see and have an appointment set up. Her medication suggestion was a good one as my pain is diminishing and I have much more energy than before with very few side effects. I am pleased with the outcome even if it wasn't the one that I initially thought I wanted and had been upset and depressed at the time of the appointment. Having taken her suggestions I am improving and avoided invasive brain surgery that likely would not have helped.
