Pediatric Critical Care

Dr. Kirkland received his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in 2010. He completed residency training in Pediatrics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (Children’s of Alabama) followed by fellowships in both Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Utah (Primary Children’s Hospital) and Pediatric Cardiology at Emory University (Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta).

Dr. Kirkland’s clinical interests focus on the care of children with congenital and acquired heart disease, both operative and non-operative. He has a particular interest in mechanical cardiovascular support. His research interests include outcomes following mechanical circulatory support in children with heart disease.
