Dr Saltzman (primary dr) determined I needed consultation with nerve pain surgeon, and to receive nerve block from surgical center. Doctors needed all these studies and made decision for surgical treatment in December.

I had seen Dr. Saltzman after a extremely bad result from a surgery from another surgeon. It required a very complex surgery to improve the situation left from it. Dr. Saltzman provided options and was provided expectations of results. He was very thorough in investigating my issues to come up with a plan of care and then only did he agree to perform the surgery. I did need to have another small surgery by him because I developed an infection, but he got me in a few days after seeing the pictures of the infection. I am currently going to physical therapy to see if I can further improve the situation.

True professional caregiver

Dr. Saltzman clearly saw me as a person and not a collection of symptoms and parts. We were able to discuss some possibilities, and he answered my questions whether they were typical or more academic. When we disagreed about a course of action, he listened to me as I explained my reasons. it was not totally clear to me who would be doing the surgical should my cardiac work up allow it e.g. Dr. Saltzman or Dr. Rogers. it was also not clear what the prognosis would be for improvement of pain in the left foot after surgery would be done.

Dr. Saltzman and PA/C Laird gave a very understandable diagnosis and prognosis.

Dr. Saltzman seems to be a rare breed of doctor compared to all my years of orthopedic are elsewhere. He listens to my questions, provides informative answers, and is so compassionate and friendly in doing so, plus he has a great sense of humor. I feel so very fortunate to have ended up in his care and cannot imagine there is anyone more skilled in performing the planned surgery.

In Dec 2022, I requested a second opinion about my injury (sustained on [DATE REMOVED] and was assigned to Dr. Saltzman who agreed to look more deeply into my case and scheduled a CT scan right away. Because of the CT results he was able to diagnose a non-union fracture and put me in touch with a pharmaceutical rep for Exogen, a medical device that helps heal non-union fractures. I've been using it for 40 days and the most recent xray [DATE REMOVED] shows that it seems to be helping the fractured 5th metatarsal in my foot heal and hopefully avoid surgery.

Please see my previous comments at the beginning of the survey. The only criticism I have is that ranking Dr Saltzman in the survey as Very Good doesnt come close to describing the excellence of his care!

DR. Saltzman is a very caring professional besides being the best surgeon I have know and I have known a lot. He operated on my deformed foot and replaced my ankle. I can now walk with very little pain, compared to before when I had unbearable pain when I walked. I went to two other other surgeons before who just wanted to fuse my ankle, which would have been a nightmare because it would not have fixed the problems. DR. Saltzman spend the effort to research a way to fix my 50 year old problem. I definitely would recommend him to other patients who have foot and ankle problems.

Dr Saltzman was out standing and his resident too. He really listened and understood my physical problems and limitations.

Dr Saltzman spent time in reading my records and listening to my issues. He called in Dr Kazmers for his opinion on the pain in my foot and worked together finding options which were clearly explained. I was then sent to outpatient to see if a nerve block would help diagnose a solution. Both doctors came downstairs to follow up with me person. I mentioned to the resident I have never had such an attentive doctor visit with going above and beyond to find a solution. It reminded me of what I had heard about visits to the Mayo Clinic, working to make it the least difficult for the patient and finding answers without making you come back 6 different times. I was surprised when I read in Dr Saltzman's vitae that he had done a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic! It certainly showed!! I hope the U knows they have such dedicated doctors and show appreciation.

I had no doubt that I was being evaluated by a competent and experienced specialist. In addition to the competence, I also really appreciated the empathy.

Dr. Saltzman was great. He really listened to my concerns and paid attention to my needs. You really have to be your own medical advocate, the doctors won't do it for you. But when I did advocate for myself he listened and added a procedure to my operation to take care of a secondary pain I am having that they can now manage at the same surgery.

Everyone was excellent. The anesthesiologist, Dr. Abetx (sp?) listened to my problem in the previous surgery with tape on thin skin causing bruising and used a tie of some sort instead. All my providers, including Dr.Saltzman, were excellent.

Dr Saltzman is an amazing and talented surgeon. He explains things in ways that are easy to understand and is able to fix problems that everyone else said was impossible and the best course of action would have been amputation. Instead he was able to fix my foot so that I can have a normal life and not have to think about amputation. I am truly thankful and grateful for Dr Saltzmans talent and that he cares about patients in a way that he is willing to take on challenges and make them better.

I was very impressed with the care and time Dr Saltzman took with me in explaining everything. He didn't talk over my head and I felt like he genuinely cared about me and wanted the best outcome for treatment of my right ankle.

Smooth and easy

Everyone from the receptionist to the doctor, PA and X-ray technicians was very attentive to me and my questions. I was very impressed with everyone.

It went fast. Maybe too fast. ?? I guess I was expecting more about future expectations concerning my recovery

Dr. Saltzman was not alone and seemed more in the teaching mode. I was disheartened as i had questions. It was by this I met the Athletic Trainer Mr. Drix. (I believe I have his name right.) Sorry if incorrect. He showed me some techniques to help me gain more mobility and movement. I spoke with him prior, and was so impressed by his knowledge and giving me hope with my ongoing recovery.

Dr. Saltzman is professional, demonstrably caring, NEVER rushed, personable.

The treatment plan was cut short because the physician wanted a CT of my ankle but insurance wouldn't approve the same day. As a result, it will be three weeks before I can get with Dr Saltzman again to determine a treatment plan.

Charles Saltzman and his team did excellent surgery on my ankle and everything he told me to expect (before and after the surgery) occurred as he said it would. My ankle is essentially healed in less than 3 1/2 months from the date of surgery.

He was extremely kind, courteous, funny, and thorough; and he really made me feel secure and well-cared for. His knowledge is top notch, but not once did he talk down to me or speak in a manner that made me feel less than extremely valued and cared about. After one visit, I almost consider Dr. Saltzman a friend as well as my doctor, and that is a rare attribute that he should be lauded for.
