  • Joanna Grudziak, MD, MPH earned her medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She completed both a General Surgery Residency and a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. During a two year research fellowship in residency, she also earned a Master’s Degree in Public Health with a concentration in Health Leadership, and served as a trauma and burn research fellow at the Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lillongwe, Malawi.

    Dr. Grudziak’s clinical interests include:

    • Emergency general surgical conditions

    • The care of the critically injured trauma patient

    Dr. Grudziak’s research interests include:

    • Shared decision making in emergency surgical procedures

    • Integration of palliative care in the surgical intensive care unit

    • Standardization of surgical procedure teaching using simulation-based instruction

    • Integration of virtual platforms to improve access to surgical care in low and middle

    income countries
