  • Dr. John Erikson Yap, MD, MBA, is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. With a passion for clinical excellence and medical innovation, Dr. Yap manages a wide range of gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, from common to complex cases. His expertise includes advanced luminal interventional procedures such as tissue ablations, complex polypectomies, feeding tube placements, and endoscopic suturing, employing cutting-edge techniques to enhance patient outcomes.

    Dr. Yap graduated with honors from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines, and completed a highly regarded internship at the University of the Philippines, where he was recognized as one of the top interns in his cohort. He then completed his Internal Medicine residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, where he served an additional year as Chief Medical Resident, followed by a Gastroenterology Fellowship at the same institution. He later joined the faculty at the Medical College of Georgia, serving as Associate Program Director for the Gastroenterology fellowship. In 2022, the American College of Physicians' Georgia Chapter recognized him as the Outstanding Early Career Physician, an honor reflecting his leadership and commitment to academic medicine.

    In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Yap holds an MBA and is currently pursuing an MHA to enhance his expertise in healthcare leadership and advocacy. He is board-certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and obesity medicine, and actively serves on committees for several professional associations. Dr. Yap’s career reflects his steadfast commitment to clinical excellence, medical education, and leadership in healthcare.
