    Dr. Shipe received a dual BA in Anthropological Sciences and Human Biology from Stanford University. After graduating, she served as an AmeriCorps VISTA, working with the San Francisco Department of Public Health and homeless shelters and clinics for two years. Dr. Shipe received her MD with a certificate in global health and her Masters in Public Health in Health Services from the University of Washington. During this time, she worked with AmeriCorps to provide services to rural populations throughout the northwest United States and spent time in rural Uganda and Kenya. After medical school, she completed her general surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and a two-year research fellowship in thoracic surgery focused on advanced statistical modeling techniques. She completed her pediatric surgery fellowship at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, where she studied advanced minimally invasive techniques, including robotic surgery and complex pediatric surgical oncology.
