Patient Rating
Patients overwhelmingly praise Dr. Archibeck for excellent surgical skill and improved pain and function after procedures. Many commenters highlight clear explanations, compassionate bedside manner, helpful post-operative texts, and a responsive, caring staff that made them feel respected. A minority noted visits that felt rushed or that the provider did not fully listen, suggesting occasional variability in time spent with patients.
Generated via Patient Reviews
The patient rating score is an average of all responses on our patient experience survey. The rating averages scores for all questions about care from our providers. The scale on which responses are measured is 1 to 5 with 5 being the best score.
Patient comments are gathered from our patient experience survey and displayed in their entirety. For the convenience of our visitors, some patient comments have been translated from their original language into English while preserving their original meaning as accurately as possible. Patients are de-identified for confidentiality and patient privacy.

He was very nice and I informative.
Very good Doctor
I have only seen him once and he seams to vary knowledgeable about what needs to get done.
Dr. Archibeck impressed me with his dedication to ensuring that my surgery would successful, that my post surgical pain would well managed, and my recovery would be a positive experience.
This entire experience was outstanding. Everyone involved with my procedure was exceptional. I would recommend Dr. Archibeck and the University Hospital to anyone looking for the best care possible.
I wished he showed more compassion. Always in a hurry.
Dr. Archibeck was polite but I didn't feel like my issues were addressed. Expectations for my age were not addressed. If you are looking for a average result for a older patient he will work.. but if you are a younger patient go see another Dr.
He usxan awesome doctor
I purposely chose Dr. Archibeck for his high ratings on US News and World Report and because of his reputation as an excellent orthopedic surgeon when he practiced in New Mexico. I look forward to receiving care from him in the near future.
Good listener
Very nice and competent

He listened to me. Suggested options and guided me in my decision.
Very kind and knowledgeable. Explained things in a way that I could understand. Took time with me. I didn't feel rushed.
It's so nice to feel confident in your doctor and his team before committing to surgery. And I did feel confident and secure, well-informed and like I was going to be in good hands. All of my after-care was terrific with great text communications and encouragement.
Dr. Archibeck has always been professional and he did what was needed so I could have a better quality of life. It is hard to fully trust people with your health, but Dr. Archibeck was great in getting me to see the need of getting a total knee revision. I wish I had done it sooner.
For me, he's an excellent doctor. I had many problems with my knee, and after he operated on it, I've improved a lot. Highly recommended; a very good doctor. [TRANSLATED]

Dr. Archibec is the best surgeon you can find. He is kind, respectful and thorough.
Can't say a whole lot because it was the fastest doctor visit I have ever had. And the jury is still out on the surgery because it hasn't been done yet. Did not instill confidence at all so I'm apprehensive. Everything was super rushed and it seemed like he couldn't wait to get out if the room. Having second thoughts now. I was treated much better elsewhere.
My knee replacement surgery went better than expected. I recommend Dr. Archibeck to everyone who needs a surgical which he performs!!!
Dr. Archibeck is a amazing Dr. He replaced both my hips! When I first went to Dr. Archibeck I could barely walk ! Today I'm walking without level 10+ pain! He gave my life back!!!

Dr Archibeck I want to thank you for all you have done and taken me out of pain you and your staff are the greatest i have already told people about you
Very nice, friendly and to the point. Explains things in terms everyone understands not like he's speaking to other doctors using medical words. Gave options for care and left the decision up to me on the choice I preferred/wanted, he did not push me to make a choice I didn't feel comfortable with.
I saw Dr. Michael James Archibeck for a 2nd opinion. He is an outstanding doctor of orthopedic medicine. He listens and answers your questions. He's very knowledgeable in his expertise. He also followed up with a call to my surgeon. His PA is very knowledgeable too.

The doctor is really good and we talked about the injection. He did six months ago in my knee and how it worked. I got a solid six months out of the injection in my knee and we talked about maybe in another six months doing another one which as long as these shots keep working, yeah I just don't do that and when Dr. archer Archibeck says it's time to replace the knee. I would like him to do it.

He is able to provide advice even if it means he isn't going to operate.

While very knowledgeable I did not feel like an individual, more like a number to be seen and move on. He did try to do what I wanted done. He seemed concerned I might be getting pressured to have the surgery rather than I truly wanted it. Then my teeth became an issue redirecting the whole plan.

My experience at the University of Utah has been outstanding. Dr Archibeck's, skill in performing the knee replacement surgery, was amazing, I went in to surgery at 9:30 am and was home eating lunch at 1:00 pm that same day. the pre-surgery texting was so important to inform you of what to expect with the procedure, but the after surgery information was so important to help in understanding of what was happening. Dr Archibeck is a caring and thoughtful physician.
The provider seemed like he was in a hurry. He went over a list of things that I could possibly do to help with the pain, but he wouldn't listen when I told him I've been doing those things for years now. The past week my knee gave out and I'm unable to walk. So all his suggestions we're not applicable to my situation. If the provider would've just taken a few minutes and listened to what my story was and what I've already gone through, I feel like I would have gotten more out of my visit. The provider showed no concern that I was out of work until we figure out what's going on with my knee. And and I'll honestly just went through his routine and wouldn't listen. I am in the medical field myself and I know that this is not how a first visit should go. I feel like it was a waste of my time and left in tears. Everything the Dr told me, I've already done and tried all the Drs suggestions, if the Dr would take just a min and listen, I think his patients would leave with a better experience
Very professional
Dr. Archibeck talked to me about my post-surgery activity and instructed me on how to take care of it. In my view he is a top-notch surgeon and his Physician Assistant, Chuck Is great at assisting him with his patients. I couldn't have asked for a better team.
