  • Michelle Sorweid, DO, MPH is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Geriatrics. She obtained her Bachelor's of Science degree in Biological Sciences from the University of South Carolina in 2004, graduating from the South Carolina Honors College Magna cum Laude. She subsequently obtained her Master's degree in Public Health from Columbia University in New York, New York with a focus in Aging and Public Health. Her Master's thesis was on evaluating cognitive impairment in the community dwelling elderly.

    Dr. Sorweid attended medical school at the University of North Texas- Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, Texas.

    She completed Internal Medicine residency in 2014 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Denver, Colorado and pursued her Geriatrics training at the University of Utah. She completed her clinical fellowship in 2015 and was selected for a VAMC Advanced Research Fellowship from 2015-2016 where she developed and completed a VA-sponsored research study with caregivers of veterans enrolled in a proactive telehealth cognitive evaluation program. Dr. Sorweid also completed a mini-fellowship at the University of Utah Cognitive Disorders clinic in 2015 where she trained with the state's renowned cognitive neurologists.

    In July of 2016, Dr. Sorweid became full-time faculty in the Division of Geriatrics in the School of Medicine at the University of Utah Health Science Center . As of July 2020, she is the medical director of the University of Utah's Aging Brain Care Program, which offers evaluation, diagnosis and ongoing management of cognitive complaints and disorders. She also focuses on multidisciplinary efforts to improve age-friendly health care and was awarded a Center on Aging Pilot Grant in Innovations in 2021. She has been the Principal investigator for clinical trials and is focusing on research to improve care for those with cognitive impairment.
