Typically most of the office visit is spent with the medical assistant, the doctor reviews and laser scans from another room. The MA preps the eye for the injection and the doctor comes into the exam room, gloves up, gives the injection is gone in less than five minutes. Any issues with prep and procedure of previous visits or any changes to health are reviewed with the MA.

The process of being examined by 2 doctors (Fellow & Attending) delivers a positive developmental for the Fellow but it can also have patient downsides including: 1) patient discomfort having 2 retinal exams, 2) compresses the amount of 1:1 time between attending and patient, and 3) requiring patient to synthesize feedback from both providers who may express or emphasize observations differently.
She did a very thorough exam and was very honest with me about outcome of treatment.
