  • Nicholas Hannon, MD is an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Dr. Hannon received his medical degree from University College Cork. He completed his internal medicine residency at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Hannon completed his gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy fellowships at Dartmouth. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.


    As a therapeutic endoscopist, Dr. Hannon performs endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) to take biopsies from difficult-to-reach areas within the body. He performs endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) to diagnose and treat gallstones and pancreas disease. Dr. Hannon has trained in ablation techniques of precancerous lesions and early cancers. He also places endoscopic stents to facilitate passage of food through the esophagus and small bowel. Dr. Hannon removes polyps and other growths in the GI tract using advanced resection techniques such as endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). Dr. Hannon also performs peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) for the treatment of achalasia.


    Dr. Hannon has a special interest in GI global health. He has traveled to Rwanda to perform endoscopy and help train Rwandan GI fellows.
