  • Phil was born in Southern California and grew up in Salt Lake City. After graduating High School, he became an EMT and worked for local EMS during college. The first year of this job piqued his interest in nursing and he completed his BSN from Westminster College in 2001. Phil worked as an ICU nurse at St Marks Hospital in the SICU and CVICU until moving to Ft Worth for his graduate degree in Nurse Anesthesia. For about 9 years following graduation, Phil worked as a CRNA in the DFW Metroplex.

Phil joined the University of Utah in 2013 after deciding to bring his three children back to Salt Lake to be closer to family. He became one of the CRNA Associate Directors in 2017 where he has enjoyed optimizing the care team model to fit the needs of the Department of Anesthesiology, the University of Utah Hospital, and the patients of our health care system. Phil also received a direct commission to the Army Reserves in 2019. After completing all of his mandatory military training schools, he deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in 2021/2022 where he served as a CRNA on a Forward Surgical Team (FST) responsible for Damage Control Surgery to US and Coalition forces in theater.

Phil has three children who are the love of his life: Kaitlyn, Presley, and William. He has enjoyed watching them grow and mature into young adults and helping them as a guide on their own journey into adulthood.

Phil enjoys spending time in Southern Utah and the Wasatch range hiking, mountain biking, canyoneering, and enjoying the solitude of the beautiful landscapes of Utah. He also enjoys training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, CrossFit, and using high intensity training as a model for stress control and overall well-being.
