The only issue I had was how challenging it was to get an appointment. But it was wonderful how the staff put me on a waiting list for if/when they had a cancellation, I was notified and allowed to reschedule for sooner than my appointment was scheduled. The experience was professional and kind. Not being familiar with how eyes change with age, I had hoped for more education. It was rather fast paced visit almost as if robots were treating me. Very kind and knowledgeable robots. The resident was the human out of the bunch. He spent the most time with me. They were all efficient and professional but I sensed they would have rather been somewhere else, or their minds were somewhere else. They need some love. I will return for care because they were never neglectful or uncaring. I needed more of an educational experience for my visit.I wasn't there to get my oil changed.

Dr. Barlow is pleasant and does a thorough examination. He explains what he sees and explains what he doesn't see such as macular degeneration, Diabetes retinopathy or other issues related to the eyes. If the patient does have an issue with their eyes he does everything he can to provide or direct the patient to the appropriate provider to be treated.

Dr Barlow was courteous and professional. After Seth, his assistant left he said the doctor would be in soon. Well I sat there and waited for some time. Not sure how long because my phone was in my purse on another chair. I got up to get my phone and the doctor walked in which seemed odd. But he came in, introduced himself and looked at my charts. He asked me a couple of questions. Then he took the vision exam. I asked a question and he answered. Dr. Barlow said that I had very good distance vision and he said I did not have any eye disease. So he was courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. Since I did not have further questions, he walked me out and told me to check out and make an appointment for my next yearly exam.

My vision is crystal clear after cataract surgery
He put me at ease about a serious problem with the vision in one eye after cataract surgery. I felt confident that his course of treatment would eventually bring healing to the corneal edema affecting that eye.
My eye exam was thorough and helpful. It turns out that the pressure in my eyes was exactly the same as in 2021. Also my cataracts have not changed since 2021. Since I have no issues with vision, there is no need for surgery at this time.
Dr Barlow was very friendly and professional. Took time to explain my test results in a very easy to understand way.

The doctor was great. I really am not happy with how long we have to wait. If our appointment is at 10: I would assume within 20 min. We would be taken to a room. Sometimes my appointments take two hours and most of it is wait time. My time is valuable also. Perhaps a few less patients in a day.

Dr Barlow is very very intelligent and a great surgeon. However the rest of the staff supporting the actual patient ARE AWFUL. They couldn't put an IV in my arm for either of my 2 eye procedures. They told my my insurance would pay for the cataract surgery but I had to $ for lens $5,000! Then they turned around and used my $ to pay facility & provider!!! If I asked anyone they got irritated with me and sent security guards because I wanted someone to go my bill line by line with the insurance. It was the ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE IVE EVER MEDICALLY EXPERIENCED and I've had several orthopedic surgeries. I see HALOS around each light they NEVER INFORMED ME ABOUT PRIOR. They said you might have lightened colors. It's like I was on an assembly line. Dr Barlow needs his own private business. He is good but everything else was AWFUL
Dr. Barlow was very good at explaining all that was going on with my eyes and suggesting treatments that would help.
There's a general impression that he's very busy, so time is short. Occasionally, there have been lengthy delays between the appointment time and actually seeing the doctor. Getting an explanation from someone in the interval would be very helpful.
The doctor announced that the tech couldn't get measurements on my left eye. I had to ask about my right eye, which he said was ¿pretty much the same¿. I had an important question about white spots in my vision when I'm in a dark environment. He didn't seem to care and he never addressed it. It was a primary reason for me to set the appointment. He sent me to imaging, but I don't know the purpose of that or results. His ¿visit summary¿ didn't address the white spots and simply said my vision was the same. I got no prescription for glasses even though I said I was going to visit the eyeglass vendor in the lobby after my appointment.
Dr. Barlow was wonderful. He took his time in explaining conditions that needed to be addressed and which conditions would be OK with no further attention needed. That's the kind of physician I work well with.

I came in with a weepy eye, which had been weeping consistently for three weeks. I had already done a 10-day round of steroids and antibiotics, I had no itching, and no redness, and the other eye was unaffected. I mentioned a concern about a blocked tear duct because it clearly wasn't allergy related. Dr. Barlow prescribed additional/stronger steroid drops. The next day, I went to the Eye Institute of Utah, and there they tested for a blocked tear duct (by injecting a saline solution), and, indeed that turned out to be the problem. Fully blocked tear duct. I would have preferred to stay with Moran, but no one there tested me for tear duct blockage, which was so easily diagnosed at The Eye Institute.
Dr. Barlow pays attention to the chart that his nurse/assistant has written from our conversation, so he does not ask me the same questions. He does confirm if the information is correct. He listens to me well and explains well to me, who has a foreign accent and sometimes has a hard time with technical terms. He is polite and respectful.

I felt completely uncared for and rushed. He did not introduce himself, didn't ask me questions, and did a quick exam. He gave me an answer that I was concerned about but wasn't willing to listen to my questions and concerns. He told me to give it 6 months. When I stated that some of these symptoms were affecting my day to day life he brushed me off. To be concerned about sudden, drastic, life altering vision issues and just be brushed off is beyond defeating. I would never recommend a single human to see this doctor if they want someone who cares about them or is willing to discuss their health issues.

Dr. Barlow immediately listened to nurse - and made time to replace the plug in my right eye right then and there! Within minutes, I was back on course, keeping more moisture in that eye - much needed before deciding on cataracts treatment. Thank you for your immediate attention. He only needs one kind of eye drop instead of two now. He prescribed a stronger eyeglass prescription so that I won't need to use a magnifying glass for reading smaller print.

The visit felt rushed and I don't think I had time to ask ask all my questions. I probably should have tried harder. In fairness, I did get an answer for the main reason I was there, so at least the minimum was achieved.
I told Dr. Barlow that they should clone his assistant and help her in any direction she wants to go within Moran. She was fantastic and Dr. Barlow showed the same attributes that she did.

Dr. Barlow came in, introduced himself and asked about my visit. He was courteous and to the point. I told him the problems I was having with my eyes. We discussed my issues. He told me my eyes looked fine. I had dry eyes. I asked him about eye drops and he said to get on a schedule for taking eye drops instead of taking them when I felt pain or discomfort in my eyes. He said to take them 2 times a day to see how that worked out. We discussed the drusen in my eyes. He would send a reminder to come back in a year. Then he directed me back to the reception area.
Dr. Barlow helped me to feel at ease about my upcoming eye surgery. I had been very apprehensive until I talked with him. His whole staff was so kind and I felt very comfortable during my visit.
He's very polite and pleasant. I never felt hurried. I understood what he was explaining to me.
Dr. Barlow performed excellent surgery in removing cataracts & inserting IOL's in both my eyes.. Now my distance vision is very good, & my near vision is good with just readers. I am grateful to Dr. Barlow for restoring my vision! Dr. Barlow listened to me; informed me of the condition of my eyes & what my choices were; verified before surgery what surgery he would perform, talked calmly during surgery; & advised after surgery that the procedure went very well. He has already checked my eyes on the 1st follow-up appt to make certain the healing is going well, and will do so again on a 2nd follow-up appt. I met Dr. Barlow 9 years ago as a new patient. He evaluated my need for cataract surgery on my left eye but due to my severe near sightedness Dr. Barlow stated it was best to remove the cataract from my right eye as well. I don't regret that decision at all. Dr. Barlow doesn't promise 20/20 vison anything was better than the very bad vison I had.

He sat in silence while he reviewed my eye tests. He used medical terms I didn't understand and he didn't elaborate on them. He was in my room for a total of 3 minutes before I was sent on my way.

Dr. Barlow was friendly but seemed extremely busy. I think I spent a total of three minutes with him, albeit I did not have any significant complaints that day. I wanted to establish care as a new patient given a family history of glaucoma, and my ocular pressures were elevated but within normal range that day. I would have liked for Dr. Barlow to explain to me a little more about why pressures can be elevated, how I may expect them to change, etc. Again, he did nothing wrong, but I was surprised by how quickly he was in and out of the exam room and didn't have any questions about my PMH and ocular history, etc.

Extremely poor "bedside manner." Provider was brisk, disengaged & while he may be extremely competent (I don't know whether or not this is true), he didn't convey information to me. We had a cordial meeting--in that I had to ask him for any information I needed, and he responded. However, he wasn't forthcoming or involved; nor did he offer any suggestions. Zero preventative care. No suggestions as to supplements, best practices what a patient such as myself can do to safeguard eye health or check products I currently use. The most disengaged provider I've ever seen in the 40 years I've seen an ophthalmologist or optician.

He was behind schedule and didn't spend enough time with us hearing our concerns an discussing our options. He would cut us off and just give us a quick answer as to what he thought we should do.

The team of providers did a fabulous job, but I was very disappointed in my visit with Dr. Barlow. Given my recent retinal tear and ongoing concerns given the floaters and occasional flashes of light, as well as my family history of wet macular degeneration and glaucoma, both which have a strong genetic component, I expected a more thorough examination. My entire time with Dr. Barlow was under 3 minutes. The rest of his team was terrific.

Seemed rushed. I asked the doctor a question and I didn't really expect a detailed discussion of the problem...I had mentioned I am sometimes sensitive to light. I didn't expect him to delve into the problem but he kinda left it hanging....asked a question & didn't wait for the whole response....only spoke the 1 sentence rather than 2 I was going to say...didn't finish what I was going to say....which was not a paragraph. I understood him not having time to answer but It was the manner he conveyed that that made it seem not so great. I think it's better to give a direct, kind response about not having time rather than to leave It hanging and then escort the person out. He could have at least suggested whether or not it's worth following up about with someone at a later time etc...For him to escort me out of the room to the waiting room felt like It exaggerated that feeling of being rushed.

The decision on what type of lens I would have was made 5 minutes prior to surgery. The type of lens and distance of the lens wasn't discussed during the office first the month prior. I was told to discuss with the nurse that would see me next during the visit. I felt like the Dr. Was in a hurry and I was part of surgery mill. I didn't know what distance to have for the lens and whether my astigmatism should be corrected with a lens. The doctor answered my questions just before surgery, which was the next time I saw him. I think I should have waited for Dr. Katz, my first Dr at Moran. I'm still not sure whether the best decision was mande concerning my lens and vision. The decision should have been made and communicated to me during the office visit the month earlier. I wanted to wait to see how the corrective lens would be after Insurance, but the discusion regarding the lens and whether It was good for me should've occurred during the office visit, not when I was on the bed going into surgery.

The other doctor I have seen at the Moran eye center was the same way. It seems to be the culture of the center.

The med student doctor was great. Very thorough and concerned. Good because manner work my daughter and me. Dr. Barlow, however, was rushed, distracted, and uninformative. He did not mention that Moran even had a pharmacy when he asked where to send the script (this was our first time there) so we went to a pharmacy that ended up not having what we needed. This sent me on a wild goose chase for the next hour on a Friday afternoon during traffic. Dr. Barlow needs to remember that his patients don't have the experience and awareness that he does. He should consider a patient's perspective during every visit.

We discussed the prescription I would need after my cataract surgery that I received in July, to my satisfaction.
I feel Dr. Barlow spent adequate time with me on the exam and discussed future eye care to my understanding.
I first saw Dr. Hwang, Dr. Barlow's Resident Assistant (?), and he was excellent in every respect, friendly, careful and thorough with his examination, and extremely helpful in thoroughly and quite helpfully answering my questions as well as offering suggestions about my eye health In general. He Is not only a physician but a teacher as well, offering me instruction for better taking care of my eyes. Upon finishing his Residency, please make him an attractive offer to stay on board!!Dr. Barlow was his usual superb self! He Is, of course, brilliant, but he wears easily his vast knowledge and training and patiently and fully answers any questions and concerns I have, explaining -- in terms that I can readily understand -- my condition and how to Improve it. He also is friendly and, although he must be extremely busy and overworked, he never seems rushed and patiently answered my questions, giving his full attention to addressing my concerns. He's the best!
The scheduling assistant had not prewarned me that I would need two appointments to get eyeglass prescription and contact prescription. I found out from the PA in the exam room. But Dr. Barlow is the best and provided me with both prescriptions, saving me a second appointment to get my contacts prescription. He advised me that my prescription was practically the same so that's why he gave me both. And informed me I don't need to come back for two years.

You sometimes have to ask Dr. Barlow questions (like "what can I expect going forward?" or "what does that indicate?") to get him to expand on the exam's findings, but he was significantly more informative this visit than previous.

We didn't talk about the comparative costs of different treatments. But we did decide on using eye drops rather than doing further later treatments. when I went to pick up my prescription the cost was exorbitant! $300 for one little bottle of drops! so I had to call the office and ask for a different kind of drops. The drops I received then were $3 for 3 little bottles of drops! huge difference! l don't suppose the Dr. knew what the original drops would cost, or he would not have prescribed them.

Dr. Barlow is very busy. I feel he treats patients as a statistic. I do not feel my concerns were addressed, and they have been deteriorating for years under his care. He gladly answered my questions but only if I bluntly asked. The details and explanations were like 20 Questions. I was only empowered with the prescription, not information about root cause of proper treatment. Switching providers because he has done this four times to me.

I believe the PA's name was Jared, he administered the drops in my eye with little explanation of what he was doing and why. He was very disinterested in me as a patient, he went about his work by rote, did not take the time to really listen to me and was very dismissive. when Dr. Barlow came in the room he asked me to look into the retinal camera? and started the exam without telling me what he was doing or why. when he was done I had to ask him what he was doing and looking for. After the exam he asked if I had questions. I asked many questions regarding my condition of having cataracts but Barlow seemed very disinterested and a little annoyed he had to answer so many questions.
I have always liked Dr. Barlow. I have respected Dr. Barlow's ethics as an Eye Doctor. I appreciated him taking the time attending his patients' needs. What I would appreciate is having someone letting me know that there will be a long delay - then my anxiety would not be so shaken up. Thank you.

I was there due to a problem originating from cataract surgery on______. So I was disenchanted. I do not know whether the problem was due to the provider's error. This could have been covered better.
My right eye has gone from dry eye to set eye Arrangements for treatment were made immediately right here at the Daybreak U of U clinic as soon as a representative of Moran were next here.. I received that treatment on April 9th.
He was pretty quick with my visit when he finally got into the office. I didn't really have any concerns about the visit. Looking back, things were so quick when he arrived, I was just another appointment.
Second eye being done, so not much needed explaining other than making a lens decision -- going with the far lens.
Very busy place, but Doug Grossman makes sure I get the information and care I need ... it's one patient at time when it comes to making that patient feel in charge and cared for at the appointment.
I feel secure in my treatment and cataract surgeries ahead as scheduled. I feel wonderful in the hands of Dr. Barlow and his assistants. He is a very up beat, reassuring, and confident Doctor. I would recommend him to my friends and family.

I was very pleased with the visit with the exception that the post-visit note alluded to some conditions that were not discussed . I believe that the they may be normal age-related changes but would have like me those clarified either in our conversation or in the note.
I asked what questions should I be asking and got no response. this was a new experience, I needed help and was expected to know what concerned me. I expected help to understand what would be happening immediately and after treatment like a FAQ sheet to key questions off of. it didn't happen.
This was a horrible visit. I got no information from the provider so I had to ask questions and got short, curt answers. I left feeling like I knew nothing about the health of my eyes and was told to schedule an appointment in a year. The follow up notes on My Chart made no sense and after emailing the provider to ask about them, I'm still waiting for an answer.

I appreciate the follow up notes posted to My Chart after the appointments. It probably not polite to take notes in the exam room and there is typically a lot of items discussed. The notes helps what was actually said and procedures recmmended.

The NA took good notes, including my concern about my left eye lid having an irritation under/inside it. Dr Barlow did very well relating all the notes back to me, however neither of us remembered to discuss the irritation under/inside my left eye lid. This is still a concern to me since it bothers me daily. I don't know what can be done about it but I'm concerned it will just be worse with cataract surgery, especially during healing time. I will message him about it.

Even though I knew going into cataract surgery that I was not guaranteed to have 20/20 vision, I'm still a bit disappointed that it's not better, particularly my distance vision, since I'd prefer not to wear glasses. I was surprised to learn of a diagnosis Dr Barlow had entered for me on MyChart, but that had not been mentioned during my exam. When asked if I had any questions, I had replied "no," but I certainly did have questions when I learned of the doctor's findings. Fortunately, a close relative of mine is also an ophthalmologist and was more than happy to answer my questions.
Dr. Barlow was outstanding. He answered all my questions and relieved me a lot! He refined my prescriptions with prisms and I am hopeful that will help!

Dr. Barlow arranged for me to be seen the same day by a retinal specialist at the Moran Center in Salt Lake City. I did not immediately understand the urgency, but that was not his fault.
All was good.
nothing extraordinarily different from another eye dr, just further away and more expensive- very little was done except prescribe expensive Rx that we can't afford after all

I was really grateful Dr. Barlow understood I wasnt seeing as clearly in my left eye as I was in my right eye. He checked both eyes for problems and found some cloudiness in my left eye, which had had the cataract removed a couple years ago. He said we could get rid of it by using Laser surgery that same day. Now I can see just as clearly in my left eye. I was so impressed when h?e said we could take care of it right now instead of making another appointment.

Great care even I have not seen Dr. Barlow for 3 yrs. or so he was very kind considerate concern and shown GENUINE CARE FOR ME AS A PERSON AND NOT JUST ANOTHER NUMBER TO BE SEEN.
the assistant was excellent. The Dr. Just seemed to want to be in and get out.. Not too interested in my concerns. He is my 4th Dr. at Moran and the least concerned.
