Glaucoma specialist and researcher Ian Pitha, MD, PhD, has joined the John A. Moran Eye Center. Pitha provides medical and surgical management of glaucoma, cataract surgery, and comprehensive ophthalmology care.
“I value building lasting relationships with my patients,” says Pitha. “From the initial diagnosis to creating a personalized treatment plan, performing surgery, and overseeing follow-up care, I’m there with them every step of the way.”
Pitha earned his MD and PhD from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. He completed his residency at Washington University in St. Louis and was selected for an additional year as chief resident. He then completed a clinical and surgical fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute Glaucoma Center of Excellence.
Pitha was a faculty member at Wilmer for 10 years, where he divided his time between patient care, teaching, and running a research lab as a core faculty member in the Center for Nanomedicine.
At the Moran Eye Center, Pitha’s research focuses on improving care for glaucoma patients by designing more effective and safe therapeutics that could eliminate the need for using multiple prescription eye drops several times a day.
New to Utah, Pitha is looking forward to exploring Salt Lake City and incredible hiking spots with his family.
He is seeing patients at the Moran Eye Center’s University, Redwood, and Midvalley locations.
