What Is a Pinguecula?

A pinguecula is a yellowish growth that forms on the conjunctiva, usually on either side of the cornea.

Pingueculae are thought to be caused by the following:

  • Exposure to ultraviolet radiation
  • Wind
  • Dust

Pingueculae are common among people who spend a considerable amount of time outdoors, particularly in very sunny environments.

Describes a pinguecula as a yellowish growth on the conjunctiva, possibly caused by UV exposure and exposure to particulates.
