Benjamin S. Brooke, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Surgery (with tenure), Biomedical Informatics (adjunct), Population Health Sciences (adjunct), and Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery. He grew up in Salt Lake City, receiving his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Utah before heading east to complete his internship and residency in General Surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. During his surgical residency, Dr. Brooke received his Ph.D. in Clinical Investigation at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He then completed a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Dr. Brooke has a broad clinical practice focused on the open and endovascular treatment of aortic, visceral, carotid, and lower extremity arterial disease. He also provides dialysis vascular access, surgical treatment for thoracic outlet syndrome, and both open and catheter-based treatment of lower extremity venous insufficiency. In addition to clinical responsibilities, Dr. Brooke also leads a research team focused on developing models to improve care coordination for surgical patients during transitions of care by leveraging health information technology (HIT), implementation science, as well as population health analytics. Dr. Brooke’s work has been funded by grants from PCORI, the National Institutes of Health, VA HSR&D, and the Office of the National Coordinator for HIT.
