Bob Toth is both a nationally certified Physician Assistant and a certified Athletic Trainer who joined the Department of Orthopaedics in January 2010. He earned his Master's of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Utah. Prior to becoming a Physician Assistant he was an Athletic Trainer for 14 years at the University of Utah, Adrian College and the University of Oregon with internships with the San Francisco Forty-Niners and Cleveland Browns. He specializes in the care of musculoskeletal injuries in both athletes & non-athletes, musculoskeletal ultrasound, strength and power sports-specific injuries with a particular interest in cross fitters, hunters, paddle sports athletes, runners, skiers. and refugees. He cares for all levels of athletes, from the weekend warrior to Olympic and professional athletes. He prefers to use exercise, rehabilitation and nutrition to help patients recover from injury whenever possible, this includes the use of shock wave therapy for chronic tendon problems (EMS Dolorclast).
He has worked with athletes at all levels of compeition ranging from junior high to professional athletes. He has been involved in sports medicine education at multiple levels, including instruction of undergraduate and graduate students; has been involved in multiple national committees including "Task Force for Prehospital Care of the Cervical Spine Injured Athlete", "NCAA Sickle Cell Task Force" and presented at the American Football Coaches Association and National Athletic Trainer's Association National Meetings. His clinical practice includes a wide variety of orthopaedic and sports medicine conditions, including work with University of Utah athletes, Salt Lake Bees, Crossfit and all patients who are physically active. He is currently the lead medical provider for the University of Utah Baseball Team and the Salt Lake Bees (Triple A affiliate with the Los Angeles Angels).
In his free time you can find him, doing Crossfit, skiing, rucking in the mountains, hanging out with his family or being active in disaster recovery and medical humanitarian work with Team Rubicon (www.teamrubiconusa.org) in the United States and around the world (this may cause him to leave for disaster assistance on short notice).
