Primary Children's Hospital Outpatient Services at Riverton

Riverton

  • Dr. Deneau is active in all aspects of pediatric gastroenterology and endoscopy. His main areas of clinical expertise are: inflammatory bowel disease (IBD; ulcerative colitis and Crohn disease), neonates and infants with liver disease and short bowel syndrome, and the inpatient care of very ill and hospitalized patients. Dr. Deneau is a member of the inflammatory bowel disease clinic. He has IBD himself, and has been down the same road as many of his patients, with a first-hand knowledge of what it is like to live with this problem and have surgery. He is not shy about sharing his personal experiences with his patients when helpful. He truly takes this disease to heart, and tries to make the lives of his IBD patients better. Dr. Deneau created and directs a unique neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) gastroenterology clinic. Ill infants in the NICU, who often require months-long hospitalizations for complex bowel and liver diseases, are now seen by only one gastroenterologist for their entire stay in the hospital and after going home. This program helps facilitate better communication, gives families one familiar face who knows their child well, and most importantly, tries to get patients home faster. Dr. Deneau takes a conservative and thoughtful approach to patient care, and tries to avoid invasive procedures and excessive testing when possible. His goal is to make gastrointestinal diseases and symptoms as small a part of his patient's day-to-day lives as possible. Dr. Deneau is active in teaching and training medical students, pediatric residents, and fellows. He has won multiple teaching awards and brings this talent for communication to his patient care. He excels at making sure his patients and families understand their diagnoses, procedures and medications. Dr. Deneau is active in clinical research of liver disease in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, especially primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). He is active in multiple quality improvement projects throughout the hospital to improve patient safety and lower costs of care for gastrointestinal diseases.
