  • Dr Bismarck Odei is a physician-scientist and an Assistant Professor in Genitourinary Cancers at the Department of Radiation Oncology, Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah. He completed his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering at Brigham Young University. He subsequently completed his medical training at UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles, California. He was a resident and chief resident at The Ohio State Department of Radiation Oncology.

    Dr Odei is passionate about the success of his patients, and he is committed to effective patient care and education, and implementation of safe and cutting-edge technology to improve patient outcomes.

    Dr Odei's research interests include optimization of genitourinary cancer treatments, understanding the role of radiotherapy and hormone therapy in recurrent or metastatic prostate cancer, incorporating biomarker use for prognostication and predictive evaluation in prostate/bladder cancers, and the utilization of artificial intelligence for synthesizing molecular signatures to inform clinic management decisions. His non-cancer related research work focuses on equity in the academic workforce and health equity.

    He is the recent recipient of the 2023 University of Utah GUCC Pilot Grant for prostate cancer research, and the highly-competitive Robert A. Winn Career Development Award, supported by the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation.

    Dr Odei's work has been published in premier medical journals such as JAMA Internal Medicine, JAMA Network Open, and International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, and Physics. He has presented his research at international conferences such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), and National Medical Association (NMA). Some of his research work has scored in the top 5% of all research outputs scored by Altmetric.

    Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters, playing chess, and volunteers in religious and community events.
