  • Motaz Selim, MBBCh, MSc, MD, PhD, is a transplant and hepatobiliary surgeon specializing in liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation and surgical critical care. His interests include clinical outcomes in solid organ abdominal transplant, critical care of the pre- and post-transplant patients, mitigating preservation and reperfusion injury, and surgical education methods.

    Dr. Selim received his MBBCh degree from Cairo University School of Medicine where he also finished his residency and received his Master and Doctorate degrees. He completed fellowship training in Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center New York, NY. He has published over 20 peer reviewed publications and presented in multiple national and international conferences.

    He currently serves as an associate professor of surgery in the Department of Surgery, Division of Transplant & Advanced Hepatobiliary Surgery at University of Utah Health.

    Dr. Selim's goal is to help end-stage organ failure patients safely receive a life-saving organ transplant and keep it functioning for as long as possible. His research goals align with his clinical goals to provide more access to transplant to more vulnerable and disadvantaged patients. He also aims to increase access to transplant for every patient by finding new and innovative techniques and methods to safely utilize more organs for transplantation.

    In his spare time, Dr. Selim enjoys outdoor activities including biking, hiking, and kayaking. He is also an avid world traveler and photographer and is always looking for new places and cultures to learn about.
