Dr. Swanson is an emergency physician at the University of Utah Hospital and the Medical Director of University of Utah AirMed. He is also the editor-in-chief of the Air Medical Journal and chair of the Utah Air Ambulance Committee.
Dr. Swanson attended the University of Utah, University of Utah School of Medicine and completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Pittsburgh where he was the recipient of the Emergency Medicine Residents' Association National Clinical Excellence award.

His research interests include air medical transport, airway management and pain management. He has over 95 articles, book chapters, letters and abstracts published in the fields of emergency medicine and air medical transport.
Dr. Swanson also serves on the Physician Ski Patrol at Snowbird. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his 2 daughters and spending time in the mountains skiing, hiking, running, biking and climbing. He is a competitive cross country ski racer and continues to compete nationally and internationally. He has competed in over 50 ski marathons across the globe. His top cross country skiing performances include numerous top 10 finishes in US National Masters Championships including two 3rd place finishes. He has had 3 top 15 and one top 10 result in the Cross Country Skiing Masters World Cup championships.
