Matthew H. Weingard, MD, MPH

Dr. Matthew Weingard completed his medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine. He then completed his residency training in general psychiatry at Georgetown University and his fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Duke University. He also completed a Fogarty Global Health Fellowship in association with Duke University and the National Institutes of Health. He was on the faculty with Duke University for 2 years with areas of focus in pediatric consultation liaison psychiatry, education of pediatric mental health care for primary care providers, and psychiatric management of pediatric autoimmune brain disorders. He is board certified in general psychiatry with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Weingard is currently and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah and is in the Division of Behavioral Health at Primary Children’s Hospital and associate faculty with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Utah. He has held several clinical roles through Primary Children’s Hospital since joining this Division. Initially he worked as the faculty psychiatrist for the Partial Hospitalization Program at Primary Children's Hospital, Wasatch Canyons. He currently serves as a faculty psychiatrist with the Behavioral Health Consultation and Liaison Service and Medical-Psychiatric Clinic at Primary Children’s Hospital Salt Lake City Campus, which focuses on providing evaluation and management of children with both complex medical and behavioral health needs. He is actively working with local providers to build a pediatric behavioral health clinic with the Chinle Navajo Reservation in efforts to enhance access to child and adolescent mental health care.

Dr. Weingard has special interests in the interplay of medical/physical illness and mental health disorders, psychiatric assessment and treatment of autoimmune brain disorders and other neuropsychiatric illnesses, cross cultural aspects of pediatric mental illness, and improving access for child and adolescent mental health care with underserved populations. He also holds a particular passion for adult education, medical training, and global health.
